1. Keep your nitro out of the sun. 2. Don't climb with anyone who owns an airline.

I learned that not all big budget American movies made in New Zealand are gonna win an Oscar or six

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the fact they tried to rescue three people, for which four of the rescuers died and two of the people they tried to rescue. That's a pretty good use of resources.

well I personally think it's GREAT that climbing is portrayed as a death sport.... keeps the hoards off the walls... let's all keep it a big secret and tell everyone to watch VL to understand what we have to go through every time we climb.

What I learned from Vertical Limit? More people die in the rescue effort so why bother. always cut the rope to save your own ass If you get stuck, blow it up

What III LEARNED.... hmmm If you get trapped and you have ice axes don't worry using them just freeze your anus off and stay down there. Bomber anchors always break off and you can hang 5 people of a sketchy metolios cam in sandstone. Yeaaa the movie is cool cause its climbing but can we be any more unrealiztic.

okay, I'm an Aussie, so I don't recognise the place they're climbing (thought it may be Moab), what type of rock would they be on there?

Always blow a whistle in the middle of an emergency situation. Fly up to 18,000 ft instead of taking the acclimazation hike and you'll be ok Its OK to drink from a METAL water bottle in freezing temperatures. Tyrolean traverses are REALLY cool( hey it worked in Cliffhanger, right?) A little hootch in basecamp makes ya climb better.

So I started reading this Monday and was cracking up because Sunday night my friend and I had a nice rip session on VL, M2, and Cliffhanger. Ah man, ya know I need to get a new whistle before it warms up.

I believe the best line was: "Time to wake up India!" Then unleashes some explosives in the direction of India. Not climbing related, but nonetheless hilarious.

My favorite stupi part of VL was when they showed C O'donnel running at 8000m! Hollywood makes Americans look like jackasses.

When I saw this movie it was in Spanish as I rode the train to Barcelona. Even though I understood little of the dialog, just watching the action was enough to make me laugh outloud. I guess the dumbest thing I remember seeing, besides that opening sequence, was someone belaying a person into a crevase with the only anchor being a spike pushed into powder snow and then looking suprised when it started to pull out. I had no idea that pro could pull so easily when you're climbing. I quit.
