don't forget i am coming out in september...get together the weekend of the 10th and i'll be around all that next week. there is a thread in "events"

come back and see us. we'll go to the red.

r.r.

Hey RR,

Here's my email (kturner8917@msn.com), drop me a line when you're out here in Sept. We'll hit some of the front range crags.

BTW, It'd be sweet to get back to the red. Did some backpacking there in college, got a couple of routes in on raven's rock but didn't have time to do much more. Would be interesting to try out some of the new development.

Have fun folks,

KT

Alright guys (and gals if there are any out there watching this thread), time to plan another foray to the Red. I am open this weekend (26th), next weekend (3rd, 3 day weekend), or any in July except the last one. I am also up for a weekday trip with a little notice. I have a buddy that wants to go, but works weekends.

Anyone in? I am looking to put up a couple more trad leads, and would be glad to hit a few more 9's and 10's.

i'm baaaaacccckkkkk.....

flew in late last night. good times overall....besides the fact that the 3 days i had to climb at smith were all around the century mark...HOT, HOT, HOT.

met some quality rc.commers at the portland rock gym on saturday the 19th...betaben, katydid, hangerlessbolt, and nikegirl. robert and t had me and the redpoint mama over for drinks and prawns (that's shrimp to us hoosiers). fantastic time.

after a quick jaunt to the coast it was over the mountains to redmond. smith is the antithesis of the red. crimpy, sharp nubbins have replaced pocketed overhangs. climbed with somebody different each day and even got the redpoint mama to come out one night. think i got around a dozen and a half climbs in. some high first bolts...bring your stick clip (which still might not reach) or big marbles.

got to hook up with hanger again yesterday morning for some routes in the gym. super solid dude.

good times. can't head to the red this weekend sam and eric. got a double shift on tap. hope you guys get down there and have fun. drop me a line....

powers, how's muir?

Dude(s), I dropped one of my locking carribiners off the belay ledge at the top of the 1st pitch of Bloody Nose on Monday. My partners said they heard ROCK! followed by ping, ping, ping, ping... then dead silence and a split second later Vwooooooooosh as the biner came into sight & buzzed by their skulls.

Anyhow, just wanted to tell ya'll that sucks...

I uploaded 4 pictures to Draper's Bluff in the RDB. You can find them there, there are still a couple that haven't recieved votes yet. But here is the best one:

http://www.rockclimbing.com/photos.php?Action=Show&PhotoID=35133

Hope you brought back some pics Ron. So you all know, I'm in Myrtle Beach for the next week. Hopefully I'll be able to find my zen and work on the guidebook to Hunter's Bluff and King's Bluff... highly doubtful concidering all the beer in Myrtle Beach.

later,
Andy

i voted for you picture andy...i gave it a 9...for two reasons. first, i didn't want to bring the average down and second i don't remember any soill stuff on the front page.

speaking of photography...

In reply to:

i will have to take you next time. my wife insisted on keeping the camera because she was taking the kids to the museum and lava flows and such while i was climbing. i did not take a SINGLE picture of smith rock...of me climbing or otherwise. i even walked all the way up misery ridge and could have taken some great shots of the monkey face BUT....

not to mention i couldn't carry too much more with all the water i dragged down the hill.

not getting a shot is probably the only bummer about my trip. i'll take it though.

r.r.

edited to include the following....

i found this picture of a route i did.

http://www.rockclimbing.com/...n=Show&PhotoID=27952

the only difference being there was NO shade anywhere and the rock was painful hot to touch....

Cool route... I just figured you out Ron. Your one of those firefighters that gets a crap load of time off with pay. So, when are we going to go do Devil's Tower? :D <--- I'll use your biner's.

Welcome back Ron!

Eric, I am up for a trip this weekend. I will probably take the pooch along. I am not sure how that will go. I'll keep her tied up, but if she gets whiney or barks, I may have to retreat to avoid being 'one of those guys with the annoying dog' at the climbing area, and she's never been camping before. Could be interesting. My point: if no one else can go along to climb with you in the event of a puppy incident, I'll leave her at home.

Otherwise, I am looking forward to knocking out a few 5.easy trad routes to beef up my route list in my profile. Thinking about leaving Friday evening, heading back sometime late Sunday night......how's that sound?

Anyone else up for a trip?

yeah...except now i have to pay for it...payback time, that is (working double shifts).

i have allocated most of my time off this year, but devils tower in '05 could be a plan....

you should change the thing under your name from "got beer?" to "got biners?"

sam and eric, have fun this weekend and be safe. drag the traddaddy away from his work and make him come along....

Eric - or anyone that is going to the gorge this weekend: I may not leave until tomorrow morning, which would put me there around 11am our time. I will probably hit Pistol Ridge or Frotress Wall for some trad stuff. I will camp at Miguel's and be back out Sunday. Probably drive back late Sunday night. If you don't know me, just look for the guy with a dog for a belayer and say hello.

eric is out for doing anything this weekend.

sorry easton, believe me Id rather be doing anything else than this but the doc says I just have to ride it out.

Due to weather, and laziness, I didn't make it last weekend to the red, so Ron I am in this weekend if my work schedule will allow. I will let you know tomorrow morning.

Hey Ron, that pic you snapped of me on Laws was put up on the front page today! Nice shot. I guess my fifteen minutes of fame has started, so I better get busy.

Sorry Ron, the group coming in (for work) was going to cancel because of weather, but decided to tough it out. Guess I'll be toughing it out with them. I am in desperate need of sending some routes, so I'll get with you in the (hopefully) near future.

Have a good time and be safe.
