That was the stupidest thing i have read for a long time. Let the girl do what she wants. As for the climbers who dont like tori, they are just jealous. Personally, im in awe of her achievements. I wish i could have been the youngest to climb El Cap. I envy her.

Well, I bet Tori would too....but she's not the youngest person to climb El Cap. And as far as I know also, she jugged it since she doesn't lead trad. Not that jugging El Cap as a teen isn't cool and an accomplishment, but she's not the youngest if that's what she claims.
I read in another thread Scott Thelan is the youngest person to have soloed El Cap at age 14. SOLOED!!!

i don't think anyones jealous, especially climbers. climbers are not those kind of people. Obviously this person has never seen anyone climbing. No matter what, people are yelling, cheering, and sighing in dismay when anyone falls, whether it is the best climber in the world or someone climbing for the first time, we encourage them to the end. Be it PCA comps or a petzl roc tour, or just a plain old bouldering or sport climbing session, even old and senile trad climbers encourage each other. no matter the age, the ability, or the personality they still encourage eachother. I've yet to meet a climber who isn't a very, very cool person. Every one makes me climb harder, makes me climb just a little higher, and hold till the end. So in a nutshell SCREW THE AUTHOR, he has no idea what climbing is all about AT ALL.

O.K. we all agree that the person who wrote the article either has issues with climbing and climbers or is deeply in need of a clue.
On the flip side something that I don't think has been said yet is that what makes articles of this sort unfortunate, is that the recient history of climbing is littered with teens who made a name for themselves rather quickly in our sport but who didn't last. All the attention is part of it. Sure we can all name a few kids who got famous fast and stuck with it but for ever Sharma and Lindner there are twenty kids who's climbing ended before it started and premature media attention was part of the package for a number of them. It would be great if kids could go through those first years of climbing without the huge spray fest that has a tendency to warp one's perception of climbing and of one's self.
All I hope for any youngster who gets into the sport is that they will still be enjoying climbing in 30 years.

i'll bite...
TORI ALLEN SUCKS
compared to people like Lisa Rands and.... just about any sponsored male climber out there....
one of my friends climbs V13... is anyone about to tell me Tori Allen could do Something from Nothing?? c'mon... she may be decent for a girl climber, but i haven't heard of anything she has done that makes her outstanding in any way.
oh and yeah shes kinda hot....

tori allen does suck. nothing against her but she acts like she doesnt even want to climb. if u dont want to then just dont. she could always just tell her parents to go f*** off. and she is definitely not the poster child of the climbing world. more appropriately she is the poster child of the oblivous publics window to climbing. and that f****** sucks too.

I first saw that thing about climbing trees with a pet monkey turned her into some primal climbing machine on some show on tv. Thats the biggest bunch of bull sh*t I've ever heard in my entire life and I couldn't stop laughing when I heard it. I was near tears it seems doctors will make up anything if you pay them the right amount of money.
Next if you read the article in Climbing magazine about her it seemed that her father does indeed do most of the self marketing, actually the article made her seem like she was a bit of an air head and her father knew more about her life than she did. Chances are she wants that break from climbing because she feels she HAS to do it rather than WANTS to at this point. (just my opinion)
Another piece of BS was the fact that she goes out with the starting quarterback, but she doesn't party or do anything that highschool kids do. :?
So I think that her marketing is largely due to her father, the article tried to make her seem like a poster child when everyone knows what goes on when the camera isn't watching. Unless they make one of those reality shows out of her. :lol:
As far as climbers being unfriendly, more BS, I've never met a sport more accepting and helpful to newcomers than the climbing community. As far as people feeling the sport need less climbers, maybe some of us think it but it definatly doesn't show by the way newcomers are treated. Again it can be frustrating because there is a fitness/outdoors rage going on right now and more and more people are trying new extreme sports and joining health clubs. This doesn't mean all of these people will still be climbing in 15 years.

Uh...but she did turn into a primal climbing machine from climbing trees with monkeys. I'm surprised you didnt you know that. That's what this whole thing is about.

When she talks about a break from climbing she's talking about reducing her climbing from 8 hours a day / 7 days a week to 5 hours a day for 6 days a week so she can party on Friday night.

ok everyone my two cents on this if anyone cares. i live in indianapolis "home of tori" ;) and i climb at the gy her parents own. i was looking through a book they had there on her life and i was suprised to see a bunch of my friends holding her up before her christmas dance or something... lol it was kinda amusing... relevant to my rant.. probablly not... so back to topic. i do have a couple friends who know her and say she is just a really nice person. i know that she is a christian and that might contribute to the fact why she doesnt party or anything and also cmon guys maybe the star quaterback is an intense commited athlete and doesnt party either. hmmm. i think because of her faith the writer of that ridiculous article tossed in the part about her climbing to fight God or whatever. oh my that made me laugh so hard. if anything climbing brings you closer to God and closer to yourself. it quiets the soul and palces you back with nature in the middle of some of Gods most gorgeous creations. i dont think tori had alot of input on that aticle and it is a shame that all of RC.com has read that crap and formed opinions on her as a person, when we have never met her. i feel bad for her because with all the media hype she is getting im sure that she feels a pressure to continue climbing. but im sure that she gets pleasure out of it too though. i dunno we are all climbers and she is no differant there are worse and there are much better. what i would think sucks is living your life under all of this scrutony (sp?) i say go and read an article she wrote about herself and then if you have beef with it start a mammoth thread but until then dont be too hard on her ive heard only good things about her from people who know her. oh yeah and i think that more monkeys can only make this thread a better place.
