classics would be Into thin Air, Touching the Void, maybe Annapurna South Face. One pretty cool book is Ghosts of Everest. Its about the team that climbed everest in search of Mallory and Irving's bodies and tried to figure out if they made the summit or not. All good reads.

Depends on age and climbing experience, but I really liked Joe Simpson's "The Beckoning Silence" and "This Game of Ghosts".

Anker's Lost Explorer about finding Mallory is good, but not 8 hours worth. Whymper's Scrambles Among the Alps is the all-time classic. Krakauer's Eiger Dreams is pretty good.

I just finished "The Edge of Justice," by Clinton McKinzie, an actual climber/former DA/law enforcement guy. It's an adventure/crime thriller kind of book. A decent read. Just overlook that he has to explain certain things for noobs that we take for granted. It's got a little bit of that John Grisham page-turner factor late in the book. In fact, if anyone else has read this, I'd be interested in their views. Have a nice flight.

There's a book about the first 5 women to summit K2 who all died getting down or in other mountaineering accidents. I can't think of the title, but it was great. Savage Mountain, maybe. Into Thin Air has been accused of being sensationalized, and I don't have enough info to comment on that. It is, however, one hell of a page turner that made me cry too. Lynn Hill and Stacy Allison's autobiographies were both great.

John Long came up with this book called 67 near death experience or climbing close calls , (some thing like that). You guys should get this book and read it. It is so funny; I have to give AAA to John for writing that book. Story from the book This dude goes on El Cap with a girl to give her what she wants. Once they arrived at the ledge some pitches up and set up a portaledge, dude gets naked and attaches the main rope to his ankles cause harness was on the way. Shortly after, the canvas material from the portaledge brakes apart and guy drop from the middle of it and gets hanged upside down backward 10 feet below the poratledge with group of climber from pitch down below looking at the naked man. He climbs back on the rope....

If anyone wants to read the most up to date and technically accurate book out there, order a copy of the ACMB/AMGA Guide manual. It's available to non-guides as well and full of good info.

^^^I'll have some of what Henry's having. The High Lonesome by John Long (solo climbing stories) is a good read.

Feeding the Rat. Don't know the author, but it's a book about Joe Brown's climbing career and helmet biz. One of the best books I've ever read..

Don't worry, the book is written by the ACMG and not the scary at best AMGA. They just get to put their name on it and use it.
