Not a microbrewery but have you been to Sharp Edge? It's in Sliberty between Negley and Penn Circle. One of the best selections of foreign beers in Pittsburgh.

yes, I have gone there a bunch. There is a competitor in Cranberry, another in Robinson, and D's 6 packs and dogs in Regent square. They all have great selections. I forget the names of the first two, but I can figure them out if you need.

Also if you happen to find yourself in Johnstown, Johnstown Brewing Company is what got me interested in microbreweries in the first place. They had half priced beer and appetizers for their happy hours and had some delicious beer.

Hola, I'm not sure if it classifies as a "microbrewery" but Rock Bottom at the waterfront brews its beer onsite and is very much like Church Brew Works... I have always enjoyed it there and the beer is pretty righteous. Well, I'm gonna go 'cause I'm at work trying not to do work, which ironically, is pretty hard work. Peace, C.M.T

Peace, C.M.T Thanks, I would include them on the list. I forgot about them. John Harvard's is the same deal. They are both chains, but they both brew their own beer in the local stores. It has been about 2 years since I visited Rock Bottom, but the brewmaster had different tastes than I.

The remainder of my year will probably consist of my Joshua Tree trip and the rest indoor . Combination of time of sunset, busy weekends and partner with injured hand mean I've pretty much given up on trying to get outside for the rest of the year. This is going to be a long 5 months.

I am sick and busy. I probably won't be going anywhere this weekend Lots of job interviews are keeping me busy. So, I am trying to keep up with my work during the weekend. I guess the interviews are good news, but they are time consuming.

I'm in the same boat as Dan. Under the weather for the last 2 weeks, and busy as hell at work. Claire is also in the middle of her comprehensive exams, and thus needs support (read: ixnay on the NRG weekends!). Can't wait to get back out. Starting to get cabin fever.

I also have had no New fix of late. Chalk it up to lack of funds. Did you ever find a partner last weekend, divesh? Looking ahead, is anybody up for a day out locally on saturday or sunday? I shouldn't drop the cash for a longer trip. Even Breakneck or something would be nice, just to get out and stay somewhat fit.

thewyseclimber wrote: Did you ever find a partner last weekend, divesh? Yeah, I climbed at Summersville lake on Sunday, was a nice day. Heading out to the New again this weekend. Would like to climb with people from around here over there (or anywhere), but it doesn't seem to happen. On the flip side, between random combinations of people that I have run into climbing at the New, it hasn't so far been very difficult to find a partner for at least a day. Last weekend I was able to find a partner because I was mistaken for a blonde woman from my post on this forum (differrent thread). Hey, whatever gets me a climbing partner.....

Dan good luck with the interviews. Claire, lots of luck with the exams. Rockrat, I pulled a few for you today. I went to the mill for awhile this afternoon. Nice climbing weather. I did the center of ross boulder for the first time since I fell on it a month or two ago. talked with a cpl guys from new wilmington climbing on island block. I watched the one do lean across from the ground up. Pretty much straight up. I was impressed. I had a nice day but by the time you wait for it to warm up the day is short. It is now mon morn and Judy is headed back to work. She is a bit apprehensive. As far as climbing goes around here, I just looked at the ten day weather forcast and it is raining seven of those days. Maybe it was eight. yuck

I put the membership on hold about 2 weeks ago. I decided to take a break for a little while. It might be as late as 2008 when I get back into it. I am trying to finish up my degree. If I hang climbing out in front of me as a carrot for finishing....then maybe I can convince myself to get done sooner. of course, my membership can be restarted by just driving in there. We will see how long this actually works out. So far, I have been spending even more time on rc.com to make up for the lack of actual stimulation.

Wednesday, 21 Nov, Juice, the old Geezer Jock, and I ambled down to Woodland Wall. The PA clouds parted as we sped south, and WV was sunny and warm. At 11 am I was climbing in shorts and a t-shirt. We were working on hard climbs, including Jacob's Ladder and the crack to the right. I did get one 10b clean for the first time, so that was wonderful. I realized I've lost some strength, healing from my retinal detachment. We barely got out before dark and rain, so it was an extraordinary and very beautiful day, especially for this late in the season. This day 60 for the year. Hopefully we'll get a few more.

I am quite jealous. My friends went to red rocks this past week. I am eager to see them after the holiday to hear about their adventures too. On a non-climbing related note, Lam's and my car was totaled this past saturday. We are both OK though. The story can be found at the link below and I will quote what I wrote below that. Still trying to decide what car to get as a replacement, but we have a rental until Saturday. We don't know yet what insurance will value the car at. http://www.rockclimbing.com/...post=1732802#1732802
In reply to: My wife (Lam) and I share one car because we are still grad students. We were driving to pick up her brother from penn state, and we ended up totaling the car. Two cars in front of us slammed on their brakes. Then dove into the authorized vehicles only turn around on the high way. The car just in front of us slammed on his brakes. Lam saw the car was slowing, but she misjudged how much they were slowing down. I yelled for her to stop. She then locked up the wheels, but that was about 1.5 car lengths before impact. Our speed was around 70 mph prior to any braking. Both airbags engaged. I was far enough away that I didn't touch mine. (Seatbelts are great.) Lam was freaking out because she saw we were the car in the back, and so the fault is typically on that person. So she was just saying "I'm sorry" over and over. I finally got her to stop, and let me know she was unhurt. Four witnesses in addition to those people in the accident stopped to tell the cops what happened. The person that took the U-turn left then eventually came back and gave some excuse about a sneezing fit. She claimed she was already in the U-turn before the accident, but then saw the accident take place. The guy we hit went to the hospital for possible whiplash. We felt fine afterwards except for some minor bruises. The stiffness came the following day, and we are only feeling 100% today. Our car had the engine size reduced to about half of normal. The car in front of us just had the bumper tucked up underneath. Right now the insurance company is assuming it is our fault because we were in the back, but with all the witnesses staying to give their story ...there may be a possibility to push it onto the lady taking the U-turn. We looked at cars yesterday, and we are using a rental for the immediate time being. I suppose we will have to get something shortly since I have job interviews to drive to in the near future. We lost a 6 month old subaru impreza in the accident, but I had an original style Prius that I liked. We are really leaning heavily toward getting the new style Prius. It seems to be even a better car. We wish that it wasn't aimed at the ultraluxury crowd though. Since we are still grad students for another couple of months...we aren't the target market for the luxury accessories. Any thoughts on small sedan/cheap/environmentally friendly cars out there? We didn't like the honda civic and nissan hybrids much.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Thank God you're alright. Tht's all that matters. "Be glad you have the opportunity to be alive at this time, and to be a part of that preparation for the coming influences of a spiritual nature that must rule the world. These are indicated, and these are part of thy experience. Be happy of it, and give thanks daily for it." Edgar Cayce Reading 2376-3

Glad to hear you're still getting out to climb in this unpredictable weather, Doyle. And Dan, glad to hear you and Lam are OK. Sounds like a nasty accident. On the bright side, this should give you a "free pass" to get your Prius! On a side note, I may be taking a job in Atlanta. We wouldn't move, though, until we sold our house, which may take a year or two (they're letting me commute and work from home). The weeks I'm working from home will also mean that I'll be available to climb during the week, as opposed to just weekends. So Doyle and Bill, I will be giving you calls in the Spring! Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Victor (currently in Boston visiting family) ps. Bill, be sure to tell Judy that Claire and I are wishing her well, and that we hope she's fully recovered!

Judy is as recovered as she is going to get. She is back to work, the madness of retail. I am leaving on a four month road trip in the morning. I'll be back in late March. I will be spending a month or more with my sister in texas. She(sister) had her first new chemo treatment a cpl days ago. She is back to the drug she had a reaction to so she gets the drug along with lots of benadryl, in the hospital, with a nurse present all the time, and at a very slow rate. She went in on tuesday at 6 am and went home afternoon on wed. She did have some small reactions but the benadryl took care of it. Happy thanksgiving to all. Have a great winter, too. cya in the spring.

sounds like a sticky situation with your sister. I wish her the best. My grandfather has been fighting a similarly poor situation. He has an infection that is basicly not healing because he is allergic to most of the penicillin variants. The few meds he can use aren't finishing the infection off. Despite this, he recovered enough that they sent him home from the hospital a while ago. He is blind, and he had a car fall off of the jacks onto his hand. The infection immediately popped up again. So, there is another involved round of meds and hope at this point. I am glad you will be able to see your sister. I am certain that you will entertain her better than some boring nurse. After the visit with your sister, enjoy the climbing.
