Hey everyone,
My friend and I are college students in the beginning stages of starting a new climbing apparel company. We are working towards making shorts and pants with the sole intention of helping you make the most of your climbs.
We would love it if you would tell us what you have liked about your current climbing shorts and pants and what you would like to see in your future purchases.

Diamond crotch. Durable. Long enough so my goodies aren't on display. CHEAP.

Reversed Zipper fly (opens up instead of down). It's easier to deal with under the harness.

Are you trying to market to climbers that are hanging around cragging or all day multi-pitch?
For all day climbs, I want synthetic, durable (meaning I can spend six weeks doing desert offwidths and not put a hole in the knee), zipped pockets, and choices other than black.

what he said, and i want the pockets big enough to hold a guidebook if possible (i.e. zipped cargo pockets). zip off trouser extension wotsites are handy but the zips around the knees can tear holes in my skin which sucks. some kind of setup to tighten the cuffs / roll them up is handy too so that they don't get in the way when climbing but still cover the ankles when i'm walking.

Light stretch. Comfy fabric that resists odor. Rugged, ages well. Low bulk in waste area. Elastic, no belts. Pockets accessible with harness on. Cinch for ankles (pants). Low profile cargo pockets are good. Water repellent.

This sounds pretty good to me. Some waist tightening system better than the crappy sickle shorts I currently wear would be nice too.

I love the verve leda pants and capris. I love the fit, the look, the comfort and the stretch.
I do not like the fact that they fade and they only last 1 or 2 seasons at most. They are not that durable.

just reinforce everything obvious, pockets with velcro and a comfortable fit.
for a cheat sheet, look at what the "urban cycling" (or in some cases mountain biking) clothing market is doing and do similar.
That's actually where i look for my climbing clothes. durable, won't bunch during a high foot placement.
Maybe a line of leg warmers that won't interfere with technique for early morning starts that can be pulled off as the afternoon sun rises. other than this, you're looking to enter a remarkably saturated market.

Getting some good ideas here.
I like gusseted crotch.
The articulated knees idea sounds good. Thats where pants bind for me.
Durable. Has to hold up to Josh.
Guide book pocket is good.
I have a pair of nylon zip off pants that has held up well. The nylon is a faily heavy weight, not quite cordura weight, but well beyond the ussual light weight junk you get at wally/target. But the waist doesn't tighten stay up for beans, which would make them ideal.

Oh yeah, good call with the waist. How about a fully elastic waist with adjustable drawstring, but inside a taped seam or something so that it would help alleviate bunching and not rub wrong under a harness?

I'm not sure if this is a troll, but you guys have successfully described an expedition backpack, not a fucking pair of pants.
Pants are there to cover your legs. Sure it's nice to have a couple pockets, maybe one that zips or velcros so you won't lose something important but at some point enough is enough.

This can't be stressed enough. Its such an easy thing to do and makes such a world of difference. Should be SOP for anything made that may one day be worn under a harness!

This one gets my vote. Especially true on walls. I wonder why no-one in the industry has done this yet.
Funny, sometimes you hear something like this and think, WOW. So simple, yet so useful.
Generally, I climb in what ever short I have around. My favorite pairs seem to come from cut off $5.00 sweat pants at Kmart. I like my short long enough to reach past my harness leg loops, but not to my knees. I rarely climb in pants.

How about somthing like a light weight pair of carharts with a rubber strip over the knee so I can knee bar a crack and not shread my legs and pants
