Pretty Legs and Feet

For years now my feet are rough on the bottom. It doesn't seem worth it to get pedicures.
I have a callous remover and brush, but still they don't look like beautiful feet. like women who do yoga.
In fact, two holidays in a row getting these pedicure home kits. I use vitamin oil, salves . Brushes etc.
My legs have cuts and scars from climbing and bike riding. Sometimes sores, from cuts.
I would like to have beautiful legs again that I could wear a dress or shorts without having scars , just having toned legs with pretty toe nails.
So climbing women how can we have it all beautiful legs and feet for going out, and be able to continue to climb?

Don't stress. IMHO toned and used feet and legs, scars and all, ARE beautiful and sexy. Lots of guys I know feel that way, just like me.

I wear my cuts, bruises, scars and scabs like tiny little trophies. I earned everyone of them and I am proud to show them off. It's a nice juxapostion against a frilly party dress!

Not so easy, I get teased by men and women at work,
Not to mention , people whom I date.
I was once called " claw feet" by a boyfriend.
They look and scrutinize my legs and feet.
I feel embarassed.
I heard Natalie Portman wore makeup on her legs after doing "Black Swan" to cover up her scars from ballet dancing.

You really do seem to have some toxic people in your life. A guy who really cares isn't going to have a problem with scratched up legs etc, and adults with any kind of maturity level would not be teasing others like they are back in grade school.

I feel much like gblauer. I wear my dresses with pride. If my legs happen to look like they were hit by a weed wacker and someone asks what I did to my legs? Oh I was out climbing all weekend Sly

Do you work in an office environment? Where men wear suits, and people dress well and have clients?
Its sort of a dress code thing. Gee, if my shoes were not shined they would say something about that too.
If you go out to a conference, or a business dinner , how can my legs look a mess?

Do they care, or do you care, or do you care that they care? Either way, I guess you could wear pantyhose, though they are pretty old fashioned now it seems.

Yes I work in an office with a strict dress code, I also work with clients. My coworkers still do not make fun of me. It is not a business thing. It is a maturity thing. If they truly felt the appearance of your legs is inappropriate, then they can request slacks or other clothing be worn, but for them to tease as you said they do is inappropriate.

Wanting clean nice legs is fine. Being teased when they are not that way by your peers is not fine.

Its hard enough being the minority in a field of men. They want me to look like a lady for the professional look.
You have to fit in. Women who do yoga always have pretty legs and feet.
Why can't my climbers , bike legs stay nice? Maybe someone out there knows a solution? Is it possible?

I guess i just don't get it. I don't even shave my legs when it's winter. Just wear slacks, it's more comfortable anyway.

hah, look like a lady, what the hell does that mean?

as for the yoga look, i do yoga 4 times a week, and the women in my classes come in all kinds of shapes and sizes, legs are not perfect.

i love my beat up legs, i've had stitches on my legs, my right foot toes were crushed and kinda deformed after a desk dropped on my foot in 6th grad, and i have gnarly knots on my shins from wearing ski boots, 100 + days a ski season. it's life baby.

I'm a guy and here's my point of view on the problem and the solution. It seems to me that they're both in your own head.

If climbing and biking make you feel proud, let it shine through the rest of your life. You worked hard getting those muscles and scars. I'll bet every scar tells a story. Why don't you tell the stories to the people who notice? Keep an internal smile on your face.

Ultimately, no-one can give you confidence and self-esteem. You have to generate that yourself and the way to do it is through accomplishments. Climb hard. Bike fast. Pay more attention to what YOU DO, than to what THEY THINK.

If you're thin-skinned (some of your posts come across that way) there's probably a tendency to take normal guy office teasing way too personally. Guys tease one-another all the time and sometimes brutally. I won't tell you the crazy things they used to say about my hands. Then they go out and have a beer together. You say you're in a guy environment. Remember that they don't always mean what they say the way you take it. Performance always matters to guys more than talk.

Yes, I wear suits and ties and hang out with a lot of other people who do the same.

Well, you sound like you empathize. Thanks.

However, when you get dressed up , no one seems to to think scars, sores, are pretty nonetheless.

I know the point, I should be proud of my scars, and bruises from climbing and biking.
That these people who say something about them are just teasing me and should be ignored.

My question is how to cover them , when I don't want to show them off? Unsure

- A pants suit is completely appropriate "for a lady" in an office. IF someone is suggesting it isn't - make notes on the remarks and talk to a lawyer about harassment, fer crying out loud!

- Long skirts are also acceptable

- Shorter skirts with leggings are acceptable(though I think too casual in a professional setting for those beyond support personnel.

Of course, the last time I worked in an office was 2001.... do people really no longer wear pantyhose???? When I left the office environment, flat sandals with bare legs was JUST beginning to happen. and.... if you were jockeying for any sort of position, not a smart tactic.

Make-up as camouflage - Go to a theatrical makeup shop and talk to the person about covering the scars and bruises.

I had a friend who wore knee pads when she climbed, because she bruised very easily. The extra space seemed to help her with reducing the leg bumps in general. Perhaps that might be something to consider.

I stopped going for pedicures when I got the damned foot fungus. I was afraid of using the medical treatments, as I heard they were toxic to liver. So, what I did was cut my toenails SHORT. VERY short. And kept them short for...well, they still are. But it tool an easy 2 years before the black looking discolor finally left.

Keeping toenails short helps your feet feel better in shoes anyway, and (IMO) helps reduce those weird toe curvatures some people get.

I used to like bright color toenail polish, but was bad at doing my own, and since I never wanted to step foot(hahahah) in a salon again, I stopped using polish. But, if you like color, I would suggest using a softer shade, maybe a pretty blush pink. Subtle, but it will give a pleasing "finished" look, and won't be so obvious that you have Chiclets for toe nails...

My legs are thrashed, complete with an ACL (pre climbing) scar and another gash that involved stitches, and the general scrapes and pock marks that come with the back country and climbing.
When I wear a skirt or dress in summer, I either wear it over capri length leggings or capri pants and a cute pair of flats or sandals. (My feet don't look great either, but I wear a midnight cami dark, dark blue color on my toenails and it is good at hiding anything super egregious.)
Hue makes a good solid capri legging...and I'm sure you can look on line.
Ballet slipper flats hide ugly toes too! and they are pretty cute. DSW has a ton on sale right now.

Sounds good. Hey do those scars and bruises ever go away?

My freckles from the sun, my skin doctor said he could remove with a laser, he was a afraid I would get skin cancer.
My skin is naturally fair, ivory, back east there was so little sun except in the summer , but in california its very hot, and the sunscreen doesn't help much.

Leggings are great, I used to wear these pretty stockings , but here I would sweat.

Have you tried any over the counter products that work to remove scars and bruises. I climb with leggings but still , I end up with marks.
Any treatment ideas?
Gee, I miss New York, what area do you live?
I'm thinking of moving back towards, close to hudson river, or connecticut.
P. M. I would enjoy speaking to you , I've been writing flim scripts, and I'm a painter. I also worked in Business .Smile

When I have really bad bruising I'll often rub on Arnica balm. I'm not sure if it actually does anything, but I have friends who swear by it and I like the way it smells. Supposed to help with achy joints as well.

I have a scar about 5" long from the removal of a bone tumor in my tibia. I used "Mederma" (available at CVS) to minimize the appearance of the scar. It worked really well.

Fashion is communication. Like the words you use in a post and the manner in which you speak, you are communicating visually with others around you about what you think.

On Friday, I helped my wife at a craft fair. She was selling her jewelry and after we first setup my wife was very aware that she was not having many people stop by to see the wares she had laid out on the table. Many of the first visitors were stopping to admire the wreaths of candy that were being sold next to us. My wife commented that maybe the problem was that she wasn’t fat enough. Looking around the room, it was clear that visually my wife stood out. It wasn’t our skin color, it was our weight. I was also the only man in the room. Clearly we were physically in a place where we were socially not acceptable.

I joked to my wife that while we stick out a little, wait until she takes her sweater off and shows off her guns. Unlike everyone else in the room, my wife has a bulge on top of her arms and not below. What was in fashion in the room was being short at fat with more effort put into the hair than has been put into a gym. In my opinion, tall, slim, and jacked is better, but I was really in the minority in that room. The people in that room chose to look the way they looked, they may not have made a conscious decision to be fat, but they daily make decisions about how much exercise they get and if they are going to spend their money on a gym membership or jeans that are 2 sizes too small.

Ann kept her sweater on, not because of fashion or to help sales but because it was cold. The woman with the candy made some sales early to the people who were most eager to see what was for sale at the craft fair. Soon the woman next to us was sitting with her laptop checking facebook and playing some gawd offal music. Me, I was selling. And selling and working. Ann makes beautiful, but not cheap, jewelry and our sales were not about selling many $5 pieces but a few $70 pieces. Eventually, some women stopped by who knew the value of what we were selling. One piece we had on the table for $165 would probably go for $900 in Borshiem’s. We sold them some pieces and “made our table” and just those few women made the difference between a good show and a waste of time.

I didn’t know that we would have some people who stopped by who knew what we had, but I hoped. I sold what we had brought to the best of my ability. Ann isn’t going to change the type of jewelry she is makes, especially at a show. She makes what she likes and we spend the effort trying to find customers who think the way we do rather than trying to convince everyone.

Which is a really, really, really long parable for saying it is easier, and better, to find people who like what you have (bruises and all) than it is to try to change to fit their expectations.

I am always bruised and cut too. It dosn't bother me, I wear pants if it's too bad to shave.

Arnica will bring out the bruise quicker if you want things to clear before a special event.

For scars I have had success with a wound/scar on my face from ice climbing with a product called Mebo burn repair www.acesshealthcare.co.nz( no idea if you can get it overseas). It's all natural smells like sesame oil but my pharmacist rated it over the other products.(it may just be the rubbing it in helped keep blood flow up but I use it on all sorts of scratches and scars and it seems to help.)

Its sort of a dress code thing. Gee, if my shoes were not shined they would say something about that too.
If you go out to a conference, or a business dinner , how can my legs look a mess?

It's acceptable for a workplace to have a dress code, such as women have to wear a skirt/dress, but they can't have a "no skin blemishes" code. What if you had acne, excema, a rash or birth mark? Would they say something about that? Shine your shoes and wear your skirt if your company demands that, but stop worrying about your legs. There are more important things in life to worry about.

A couple of things:

1. I havent seen anyone get teased for the appearance of their skin since high school. You must work for a winning company if they hire such high-calibre assholes.

2. Mederma is awesome for scars. Ice and arinca both work well to get bruises out quickly.

3. If your legs are getting so messed up from climbing and biking, consider wearing pants. You can still get bruises but much much less cuts will come your way.

I also think that youre nuts. Completely self-critical, so focused on impressions and appearance that you lack any inner substance or personality. Life is about living for you, not to impress others. Keep this up and you will one day realise how empty your pursuits of perceived perfection really are.
