well, i'll be in south america until mid february and in the desert for most of the rest of the spring, but sometime in april or may would be good and the weather would be more reliable. the best place i can think of for all abilities on the front range is elevenmile canyon near colorado springs, with a short side trip possible to turkey rocks if it reopens(cross fingers). another possibility would be near estes park if we reserve a group site in the park. lumpy ridge for the trad climbers and the monastary for the sportos. bouldering all over the place.

Hey Steve. Very interested. South Platte would be a good place since there is lots of climbing/camping down there. I'm just not sure how much has burned.

That dirtbag, ATG, doesn't have a bad idea. Just don't schedule an event around him (ha). There also is lots of camping in the S. Platte. The best deal would be if Turkey Rocks reopens soon as there is a decent sized camping area nearby - not to mention lots of climbing at all levels. There is a large private campground below the sexy Castle at Wellington Lake. Not too many people would want to climb there, but you could still make a short drive to other places and also access some really good mtn. biking. Of course, since I'll be house sitting for ATG, while he's gone, his hostel will be open (just kidding, dirtbag).

You know I am in. Haven't we tried to put together a gathering before? This seems like deja vu or something. I suggest April. We probably don't want to do it on the front range because there is no place to camp. Although if we did I would welcome anybody to crash at my place and throw a party at my house. Somebody just has to keep Tracyroach away from the keg Otherwise, I think the Estes Park area would be the best choice. There is enough rock up there to satisfy everybody. Although April may still be too early. Otherwise eleven mile would probably be excellent as well.

If bouldering at all levels and climbing is the idea I would like to throw in Unaweep canyon for a location. Most of you have probably never been there and it is amazing, the wether is wormer than the Front Range. The bouldering is sandstone and if we hiked around everyone could get some FA’s. The trad climbing further up the canyon is almost the exact same as in Boulder Canyon. Also if people wanted we could take a short drive to the Colorado National Monument and everyone could do a desert tower or some other great climbs. What do all of you think? P.S. Camping should not be a problem. [ This Message was edited by: nimo on 2003-01-08 07:44 ]

Unaweep, Rifle, Lumpy (Estes Park), or Boulder would be best, I think. Estes Park seems like a good idea, weather might be dicy though, its a bit higher. Boulder has lots to offer and there might be enough RC'ers living here to accomodate everyone in their places. It wouldn't be as tribal as a large campsite and roaring bonfire somewhere though. Drew *sign me up. Late March, early April?* [ This Message was edited by: scrappydoo on 2003-01-08 08:07 ]

I'm definitely up for it, preferably in April. My only catch is that my kids won't be on spring break at the same time I am, so I'd need to be home each night, so Front Range works best for me. I definitely would like to see a wide range of levels/activities offered (sport, trad, bouldering, maybe even some top roping?). I could also bring some students along since my students and I will be on spring break, or would you guys prefer this be adults only? I'm up for either one.

Unaweep, there is toproping available and if we were all there it would probably constitute a record crowd, i.e. we would not see many others. The weather is a bit cold right now but wormer than the Front Range and wonderful in the sun. There are also 2 easy ice climbs that form depending when it would be.

I'm in. I'd definitely prefer to camp, but if we have it in or near Boulder I can provide some space & grub at my place. We could camp in the National Forest Land up from Estes towards Glen Haven, (about an hour hike + 15 min drive to Lumpy) but I'd be up for getting out of the Front Range, too. I've never been to Unaweep or Rifle.

I would be down for some western slope action too. I have never been to Unaweep or Rifle and Col. National monument is excellent.

What time of year are we looking at and how many days? I think this will help us choose where we want to go as well. Just checked out the info posted here re: Unaweep. It seems pretty trad heavy, which isn't a bad thing except for I think to be fair to everyone who would like to go, it would be nice to see a bit more on the sport side, if possible. I do like the fact that there is bouldering close by, though. What we need is a place with single and multi pitch, sport and trad and bouldering routes all close by. There's gotta be a climber's Disneyland like that around here somewhere.

ATG is right. Eleven-mile has trad, sport, bouldering and camping. I would recommend going there.

Unaweep dose have some sport routs depending how hard you are pulling. I have not gotten to putting a lot of climbs into the data base yet. The bolted routs start at 5.10 and there are also some mixed climbs as well. There are many routs that can be top roped on Lower Mothers Buttress around 100ft tall or they can be lead. In trad and bouldering there are all grades, what were you thinking as far as sport goes?

I just read on climbingboulder.com that Mother's Buttress in Unaweep is closed Mar 15 - Jul 15 for nesting birds.
