In reply to: is tom cruise actually going..or his stunt double? Ron Kauk??? Good luck to him. We all know he's got enough money for it. Hopefully he gets a good guide. Of course the fallout from this could be a flood of Tom Cruise wannabe's to the mountain. Its crowded enough as it is.

I wish I had the money and resources that he has to even get to base camp! On the other hand, if this is for ANYTHING other then PURE personal satisfaction he should stay off the mountain. It does deserve respect as do those who have not only clibed up but down.

Tom is actually a rock climber so heading to Everest isn't just an out-of-the-blue idea. He's got some guts, a reputation for doing his own stunts, even when they don't want him to. Sure, Everest isn't the most technical peak ever, but it's got to be bust ass in an extreme. Which means they couldn't pay me to do that. I've been around the mountain on several sides. Beautiful, very beautiful, but I'm not sure I'd appreciate the beauty coughing up my lungs at 26000 feet. PEace Karl

i'm aware that tom is a climber, he talks about it in the commentary on the MI2 dvd, anyways; so what has the dood climbed in prepairation for the big slog? really though, if i had the rescources available that he does, i would have to dedicate myself to an objective a bit cooler than freekin everest. it just doesn't sound like any fun at all. i'd rather be forced to climb rainier 2000 times with a bag over my head. (i did it once, and it was freekin dull, mountaineering sucks) dear tom: don't be a bitch, go climb something cooler. love, tim

Being that the climbing community is such a small tight group, I would like to know WHO has climbed WHERE with Tom... Additionally, I want to know whether he leads trad, sport or simply TR's a 4.xx route that was rigged on a back lot somewhere in Hollyweird. That's what I thought!!!!123456789

Does being a rock climber going to help him that much? Better have some alpine experience and pay the sherpas well (well his guide). Just a big suck fest with one foot in front of the other. It's not about your technical ability but your ability to endure pain and suffering......

Guys guys guys (and girls).....dont hate on Tom!!!! Why does it make you so mad that he enjoys a sport such as rock climbing? Chill out people. Is he somehow not entitled to the joys of humanit simply because he has been successfull as an actor, (moreover an actor with a somewhat artistic sense (cases in point: Magnolia, Vanilla Sky))?? Ever since I saw Magnolia, I started to realize Cruise was a little different than your average hollywood heartthrob. Hes a good actor, pure and simple. And thats awesome if he likes climbing too.

In reply to: Beautiful, very beautiful, but I'm not sure I'd appreciate the beauty coughing up my lungs at 26000 feet. Yep. Unless I was sure I could handle the altitude, I don't think I would enjoy the splitting headaches and dizziness. Not really into the whole peak bagging aspect of it, either. It's nice when you can find things at a lower altitude that are not popular, yet are more interesting.

A lot of well known people climb. David Lee Roth and Billy Squire climb. Who cares? Let Tom Cruise be.

Tom is a poseur, not a man... Real men would never toss back the likes of either Mimi Rodgers or Nicole Kiddman. He's also a Scientologist, and the last thing we need is are recruiters for L Ron Hubbard hanging around the crags.
