In reply to: I know this wont help the immediate cause, but Miguel should just charge an extra $5 for camping for those coming for the weekend. Out of that extra money it could go direct to access issues. I mean everyone will pay it, Miguels rocks and it would still be one of the cheaper places to stay.
that is a good idea, but make it on a voluntary basis.

Hi Chris,
Today's total is around $5575. I'm on a climbing trip so I haven't been able to update http://www.redriverclimbing.com but I've seen donations coming in daily. Also, we're working together with the RRGCC and I'll be getting together with them next week for a current, up-to-date total. I'll definitely keep the updates coming!
In addition to this very successful internet fundraiser, we have several other hands-on events being planned for the winter and spring months. We have a LOT of money to raise in order to secure this incredible climbing area but we also have a lot of folks highly charged and ready for the challenge. But we still desperately need the help of everyone reading this thread so please....give what you can and pass on to all those you know the knowledge of what's going on at the Red River Gorge. Losing this amazing climbing area in the Southern Region is not an option.

Today's total is at $9,148.70! Hasn't even been four weeks either! There are tons of fundraising efforts on deck for the next several months and we're aiming for raising the full $200K within two years so as to pay off the dept in full. We'll see what happens, I guess...

We have a similar fundraising challenge in North Carolina with Laurel Knob. It impressed me a great deal how many people from outside of North Carolina contributed. Some of them are from so far away it's hard to imagine that they'll ever see what they helped save. That's pretty cool.
So, as a grateful North Carolinian I've returned the favor with a small contribution to help save the Red, even though I haven't been there - yet. I do have an awesome guidebook now though so I guess I'll have to make a trip soon. :)
I hope the out-of-state support continues for both projects. It really makes me think that the community of climbers we belong to extends far beyond our local crags.

So how can I donate gear to your auction? It's not readily apparent from the auction main page. Or at least it isn't readily apparent to me. :)
I've been drooling over some of the new extended range cams for awhile but have resisted temptation because I have perfectly good camalots. It just feels wasteful to dump them for the new stuff. But if I can sell a few of the old ones for a good cause then it's okay, right? :)
Also, have you guys considered trying to do a fundraiser like the New River Rendezevous? That could bring attenction to the area and maybe raise a few bucks. I know I'd love it because things like that are a great, quick way to get to know a new area.

The online auction is setup is a lot like Ebay. FYI, you have to be a member of our site. You then make an auction of your item by clicking "New Offer", define your auction duration time, starting bid or direct sale price (like Ebay's buy it now), shipping cost, add photos, etc. It's really simple. If your item sells, the seller and buyer work out payment and shipping via PMs. Then it's left up to the seller to make a donation from their auction profits. http://www.redriverclimbing.com/auction.php
We are planning many fundraiser events for the Spring so stay tuned. This is just the beginning! :)

The auctions are a really good idea. And not just gear being auctioned, but some things I would not have thought of. Climbing photography, FA of a route, belay slave.
Just bought a set of Nuts for $35 on the auction.
When I get home, I'm going to put up an auction for driving from PA to RRG + belay slave for the weekend.

I like the Fundraiser Frankenjura... Frank and Mandy (very cool people) living in Germany auctioning off their guest bedrooms for two weeks, guided climbing around Frankenjura, and the local hookup of the area. Starting bid is only $500.

I already started talking with my wife about the Germany trip. She's pregnant and due in August, so I don't know if she'll let me go to Germany for 2 weeks, but it's worth trying to convince her. I mean after all, it is for a good cause!!!

Sweet, should hopefully be a cool day for the winning bidder - I plan on taking a lot of photos...
Also, if people want to get a small group together and pool some money for the bid, then that is fine as well. Money is for a good cause, and you will end up with (hopefully) some pretty good photos.
