Did my first Trad lead on Sunday. I placed 1 nut and 3 cams in 100ft on Washboard (5.6) at Moore's Wall in NC. I also learned that climbing isn't about being fearless; It's knowing how to control your fear so you can get your butt up the next 30 feet for a bomber placement. Anyway... This post is here for anyone to let me and some of the other RC.commers read about their significant or (in my case) not-so-significant feats during the weekend.

Sat around and watched too much TV, went book shopping, meet some friends for dinner, and played playstation. I'm starting to get really good at being a homebody.....and I'm also starting to get really bored!

Snake Dike on Saturday under initially blue skies with only one other party on the route. Last belay was chilly as there were a few clouds moving through at that level, but a couple minute on the slabs above put us above the clouds for an incomparable view. Stirred up the resolve to climb again on Sunday and went up the Grack, center. Sweeeeeeet route with a second pitch that is pure joy, especially as we were the only ones on the route.

Sam, I like this slab. Forget that cam. I'll come back to climb that crack, but first I'll nab that slab! okay so I am not original.

I was hoping to get to Granite Mtn for some longer trad routes but was unsure of the weather. So my partner and I took a group of 3 indoor climbers to climb on some real rock for their first time. We went to Queen Creek and did some easy to moderate sport routes. Overall had a great weekend.

Check out my weekend LOL... 2 weeks ago I asked my supervisor if I could leave around 12 for my first Homecoming at my school as an alumni. Last Tuesday I reminded him about this and he had no problems with it... b/c afterall he was leaving to go on a week long cruise for his bday the next day. Friday: At 12 after all my work was done for the week and after sitting around and doing absolutely nothing all morning with my supervisor (b/c we had no work to be done) I let him know that I was about to take off... he says that I was not alowed to take off early b/c he had shit for me to do. Although I was annoyed at his comment I said nor did anything about his response. Immediately after, we left to take an hour and a half lunch b/c it was my supervisor's bday. Afterwards we went to another of our offices to pick up some stuff (that we were going to get on Monday). From the office my supervisor split (b/c its ok for him to leave and not I for some reason  ) leaving me and another worker to take the crap back to our office 25 mins away. By the time I got off work it was pushing three(we start work at 6 and end at 230-3). I went to get on the hwy to commence my 7.5 hour drive to my school only to be stuck in traffic. After waiting 45 mins and not moving more than 3 miles I decided to call it quits, since there was no other way out of town thanks to some severe flooding earlier in the week. So I turned around and headed for home. I ended up missing my first homecoming. Monday: It gets better! :D I come in monday to find out that my supervisor's boss wanted to see me in his office. I walk in and he says that we're gonna have to let you go b/c you are not a smart investment for this company at this point and you are "difficult to work with" according to some employees. For the few of those who know me I am about as mellow as they come. That pretty summs up my weekend... did anyone have one better than I?

Friday was my bday, got rather hammered. Went to the PDX ice fest/gear demo/drytool comp hungover on saturday.. Almost flashed the M8 comp route and placed second... my first time ever drytooling (I guess it's not really a flash on TR though). Now I've gotta save up and buy myself a pair of nomics. Camped outside of vancouver, woke up to pouring rain, thought it would ease up, 10 minutes later I started packing up in the ensuing torrential downpour. Made it from Vancouver to seattle in ~2 hrs 40 minutes including stops for gas and burger king. Sadly doesn't come close to my buddy's Seattle-Bellingham record of 48 minutes.

That guy is wearing a SUPERMAN shirt!!!! I only ever climb in a batman shirt. If I'd choose the all powerful kryptonian over the closet homosexual millionaire, I could climb harder too.

I set a goal for myself to climb every day for the month of October. This weekend was sort of my midpoint and I had a 3 day weekend to spend climbing. Since I don't have a climbing partner I spend most of my climb time bouldering. I was a little tired on Saturday. I'm not exactly sure why but my forearms wore out quicker than they normally do. I spent most of my time trying to climb easy routes through the burn but didn't get many attempts on new routes. I was able to tough through an hour and a half of climbing but I didn't feel very good at all. Sunday I almost didn't get to go climbing. I babysat my girlfriend's daughter for most of the day while she worked and she didn't get back until an hour before the gym closed. I rushed to the gym and spent my time working on 3 "project" routes. I lost a lot of skin off my fingertips that day. Monday I arranged for a different babysitter and got 2 hours of climbing in. It was probably the best day of climbing I've had since this month started. I strained a muscle by my elbow right off the bat so it was aching the whole time but I managed to make 2 of my "projects". I also was able to on-sight (is that possible in a gym?) a route that I didn't even think I would be able to start. I took Tuesday off climbing to let my elbow rest a little bit. All said I had a decent weekend climbing. I wouldn't consider myself that great of a climber but the routes I finished were definitely testing my skill and strength. I'm very happy with the progress I have made in 2 weeks. If things keep going this way I may just extend my climbing goal to include next month too. Now I just need to find someone who can help me learn lead and I'll be set. My gym requires two people to take a lead class and the one co-worker that I've climbed with lives about 45 minutes away and goes to another gym. I'm just really bummed that I got serious about this late in the season. Now I have to play roulette with the weather before trying to plan a trip to Smith, Broughton, Beacon, etc.

In reply to: I set a goal for myself to climb every day for the month of October. My suggestion: don't. I had that mentality once, and it did me no good. If you don't give your body a break of at least 48 hours, you're going to greatly increase the risk of injury. My ability plateaued around 5.9/5.10a, and I thought that was because I didn't climb enough. I didn't improve until I stopped climbing every day, and did something else that wasn't finger and forearm-intensive. Be kind to your body, and it will reward you. Run it into the ground, and it will only make you climb worse.

My 4 day weekend ended yesterday. Sport and trad climbing at Jackson Falls Saturday and Sunday with a little PBR enhanced night bouldering. Spent a rainy Monday climbing on Dave Chancellor's monster garage woodie. Spent a few hours getting worked at yet another set of secret SoIll pebbles. d.

Did a three pitch and two two pitch routes in the Stronghold with a new partner. We had a great time. I love watching the eagles and hawks from above.

Was the last party to start climbing on Cathederal Peak and the first to the summit. Absolutely perfect weather all day - blue skies and a minimum of wind. That last 20 feet certainly left me impressed with John Muir's ascent.

I had a great weekend climbing my first 5.10a and making it to the top. It was only about 30 ft., but the downside was walking down the back of the hill. I got halfway down, lost my footing and twisted my knee and my ankle at the same time. After that I had to walk a half mile to the bus stop. That was in May and my knee is still giving me crap.

The rain starts, the bugs bite, and you can only dream of hot food and a warm bed to sleep in.... The whole story is too much for here, but that my friend is an epic..... Twisting your ankle on a 4 foot wide path is hardly an epic...

Having to bivvy and lost and camping over night as a surprise is epic. Staying lost and wandering the woods even more so.
