SOB will take your order but will not fill your order. I've got a buddy who is still waiting for his fly - 4 months later - and all he gets from FISH is bullshit excuses. But what really sucks is he continues to post on the internet and climb in Joshua Tree ON HIS SO CALLED "CUSTOMERS" MONEY. Funny thing is that he just doesn't care. Hey Russ - quit being such a fuc*stick and fill the order that YOU'VE ALREADY BEEN PAID FOR! Heads up - You'll be getting a knock on your door very soon. Money, or the fly. You choose. There is another option that we'll exercise depending on your how you choose to fill this order.

*Sigh* Russ ain't known for his expediency, but he was always very good about keeping me up to date and making sure his schedule didn't impact mine. If I recall correctly he didn't bill my card until it was time to ship. I remember it posted on my account and I got an email from him the next day saying my pile-o-gear had shipped. Maybe you paid with a check?

It is great you are standing up for your buddy..... but between the hate mail you send directly (thanks for that by the way) and this childish diatribe, it makes me wonder just what your angle is? You guys dating or something? There is nothing I would like more than to have a bunch of flys ready to go to fill orders. Do you think I just sit on completed stuff so I can take shit from the likes of you? The flys are a problem. Ask BD, ask Metolius, ask us. They will go as soon as they are ready. It is an important piece of the ledge puzzle and sending out a quickie fly just to keep your panties out of your crack is not something I would do. Funny thing is I do care, and there are things larger than your "friends" fly that happen here. Side note: Money or the fly is completely up to your friend. Your friend is welcome to return his ledge if that is what he wants. A small bit of advice is I don't do threats real lightly. If you want to exercise your other "options" be prepared to bring it. You may get on the porch, but you certainly ain't walking off of it.

As has been said, Russ is known for great products, if not blinding production speeds. If your friend didn't know, I'd guess he was about the only one.

More bullshit excuses. Just look at this thread. You could be sewing away. It's not a complicated piece to build out. I just spoke with BD and they said your statement is not true.
In reply to: The flys are a problem. Ask BD, ask Metolius, ask us. So quit pissin in the wind and telling us it's raining!
In reply to: there are things larger than your "friends" fly that happen here. Yea - you climbing with his money and posting on climbing forums. ASS! How about you fill the fucking order and get off the internet....... And these other options are not violent - assholes. There are much more productive ways to get a pound of perverable flesh.

Yawn.... have your husband send his ledge back. I'm not that interested in making the fly any more. You can tell him your sugary personality did the trick. I'm sure he wil be pleased. Then again... who is your husband? I have tons of guys waiting on flys. You can hide out behind a fake name, but the other guy that you are ranting for will need to supply some info.

You fucking waste! WTF! Ya know we already expected you to respond like this - So he is prepared (He lives off Evergreen Road - Try and find it in your vast data base of customers. Or should I say suckers). And you expect us to trust you'll actually return his money. BULLSHIT!!!!!! I mean for fuck sake, someone pays you for a product and YOU get to choose if the order gets filled or not. Your business model is bullshit and if anyone is interested in purchasing this assbags products let this be a warning. I don't give a shit if Mr Balling is selling water in hell, if he can't deliver; he's of no use. And BillCoe - He has been asking Mr Balling for his product for 4 months now. Did you not read the orginal post.

The "WE" I talk about is the climbing consumer who thinks he'll get his or her orders filled in a timely manner. I can't believe you're gonna to fall on your own sword because I hurt your feelings. Waaaaaaa Waaaaa Boo hooo. Grow up asshole you have this customers hard earned money. Money that was NOT intented to sponser your climbing trips and parties. All you did was prove a point. NEVER ORDER from FISH - Unless you are in good with him. The "husband" will be calling you soon to have you send the money first. Cause your integrity sucks.

Sentinel: Chill a bit. You've got a grievance, and a right to bring up that grievance, but you do NOT have the right to fill these forums with hate-filled vitrol. Russ: Same. You've been called to the table, and you have a right to defend yourself. But again, do it with a bit more diplomacy.

I've never seen anyone else complain about him and I've surfed the boards way too much. As for integrity, you whined and threatened, and he offered to pay your friend back if he returned the product. Sounds pretty standup. Small business, specialty goods, delays are expected, man. I remember when offset aliens were hard to get ahold of. Stop complaining behind an anonymous name and have your friend deal with the situation if he/she cares that much.

Goota love the energy between Sentinal and Russ. One, a high stress city dweller, screaming, spit flying out of his mouth ranting, whoi has been sooo terribly wronged by life. Ex. "You SUCK Man, how can you do this to me, you deserve to DIE" And Russ, the typical crusty desert climber. Kind, polite, and could really care less about your problems.

Russ just make the transaction happen. Either send Nick the money or the Fly. Tell us which it'll be, so the sucker who'll order in the future will know how to act accordingly. Nick is to nice of a person and you've taken advantage of that kindness, that's why I've stepped in. I really don't care what you think of my posting - hence the reason for posting "every 4 yrs"- only when something needs to be addressed and or discussed. Anyone who has contributed over 5000 posts needs there medication refilled. Done

Sentinel, Fish is not only a legendary climbing figure, but he runs a good business, with solid gear at a good price. If your going to air a grievance publicly, do it with some level of class. Hand crafted products take longer than big box retailers, but even they run out of inventory. It can take "weeks" sometimes. Not everything is available the moment you want it. Every time I placed an order at Fish, he let me know on the front end that there may be a wait, and I canceled my order if I was in a rush. Marc

The funny part...the more Sentinel whines like a pathetic four year old, the more advertising he gives for one of the best companies in the climbing market. Anyone who isn't a complete newbie knows that Fish Gear rocks but you may have to wait for best deals on big wall gear. So now Sentinel has screwed his friend, probably not the first time eh, who will have to pay many times more for a ledge from Metolius or BD.

In reply to: what - the slightest hint of a threat is enough incur liability on your part? Actually, yes. Hasn't been brought to court in the US... yet?... but it has elsewhere.
In reply to: So when Sentigal get's clocked on the Fish porch and sues everybody in sight, he'll include rc.zzzzz because you allowed the verbal blood to fly here? Look, let's be reasonable here. Nobody said what you are saying. We're simply asking that folks take up their issues with a bit of maturity. Maybe that's too much to ask, but we don't think so.
In reply to: pg13 is milktoast. i want hard "r" internet bitch-fests 1. It's milquetoast. 2. If you want "hard 'r' internet," there are forums that provide it.

Now the whole site is bookmarked – I’ll probably never stray much past the stories part, but it’s good advertising none the less. Yer a good writer Russ.

Wow this anonymous semen'al guy is a real bitch. I wonder what his husband thinks? I know Russ, he has always served me well. Russ is a stand-up guy. Anyone in the know understands that it takes time for Russ to get some of his products to customers. I've never heard of Russ screwing anyone. Maybe semen'al swallows too much.... I KNOW WHAT IT IS, IT'S "THAT" TIME OF THE MONTH FOR HIM. This guy really is a ball less coward. Careful Russ, he might spit on you and give you an STD! What a pussy. By the way, i'm not an anonymous coward. Robert Fonda Joshua Tree

I agree with Reno--this should and can be concluded in a civil and business-like manner. I understand where Russ is coming from, I have a good friend who used to mini-manufacture for the outddor crowd and was definitely a slacker/climber first. Bottomline--this is a business transaction and if Russ cannot expediently deal with customer problems/relations then he should delegate or hire someone else to do it for him so he can concentrate on R&D and climbing.

I agree with Jeff -- reading those posts was really entertaining. I also learned a lot in the process. For instance, most people are backing up FISH. It makes sense what people are saying about specialty companies needing extra time and not being able to have all products on hand. Sounds like Sentinel really fucked his buddy, but maybe his buddy doesn't care. If I were Russ, I honestly wouldn't have responded to Sentinels ravings.. but for my sake, I'm glad that he did. Keep ranting, people, it's fun to read!! And for the record, I went to the FISH website because I was planning on buying a ledge before my next visit to Yosemite. Not only was I sold on FISH products after perusing their websites, but this thread also taught me that I need to order a couple months ahead of time. Sentinel, thank you bringing all of this information to light. You are responsible for sending business to FISH!! Good work!! --Marc

After reading sentinels past posts, it is obvious that he is an asshole. Threats are common from him and shittalking is all he does. I appreciate the fact that fish will get on here and mix it up live with what appears to be some kind of total jerk. Many companies never post even though they read all the forums and let all sorts of bad press just ride out the threads with them too scared to respond. I've always got great service from fish, and the products are inexpensive and crazy bomber. What is sad is that sentinel just cost his friend about 500bucks by being a dik. Now he will have to buy a really expensive ledge. bummer for him but I understand why fish is giving them a big "fuk you".

Whoa, this is like on of the most exciting threads ever! Way enjoyed it, just had to point out that Russ Walling RULES, he makes the most unique and cool gear on the planet. AND he is the last person out there who is going to rip someone off. So the spraymaster who started this thread is so far out there is blows my mind...but does make for good entertainment!

For what its worth, the first mention of a problem was today (12/18/06). Sentinel demanded (twice) that his friend recieve a refund. However, these things are not instantaneous. Furthermore, at least according to the Fish catalog, there are no flies for sale that do not come with ledges. Ergo, his friend has already recieved the ledge. Thus, Russ is being quite reasonable for asking that the ledge be sent back before he issues a refund. Unless sentinel is just trying to gig him out of some money under the guise of being an acerbic customer. So, the reasonable thing here is that if sentinel's friend wants a refund, HE (not sentinel) should take it up with Russ. There needs to be reciepts involved. If the friend cannot prove (separate from Russ's own records) that he ever purchased said fly and ledge, and subsequently send in the ledge, then no money should be exchanged. I can't go into an REI and demand a refund for an item I purchased (like if it was missing a piece, as the case is here), if I won't turn in the item in question. Second, Russ is right. I've watched with considerable interest the saga of Metolius trying to get their flies built. It wasn't until the last two years that you could get them, but they've been "on the market - next season" since 2001. BD has had similar issues, but they've had flies available for longer.

yeah. people being "e-tough" is always funny. never quite gotten the concept though. sentinel: i can understand your friend being frustrated, but why are YOU so angry? name calling will get you nowhere. if your friend has a grievance, then THEY should be voicing their opinion, not you. nowhere have you indicated that your friend has previously asked for the money back. so why make claims of "the money, the fly, or else..."? and "warnings" that start off with "SOB" don't really carry too much weight with most people. i don't see a warning at all. instead, all i see is a bunch of ranting and raving from what i can only presume to be some little high school "tough guy" whose "friend" would not take proper actions to remedy the situation. of course, we don't know if they really tried because there is very little (if any actually) content to your post spaced between all of the cursing and threats.

I've not bought from them (read: I ain't no aid climber... ) but I know several folks who have, and the general consensus has been nothing short of 100% positive. My comment earlier was only to ask for civility. Not so much to ask, really. DMT, from his post, seems to think otherwise. Diff'rent strokes, I reckon. P.S. I'm a fan of Prozac, when used properly. It kept my only sister from suicide, and that alone is worth more than money... she's my sis, after all.

Although I expect someoen to be more professional, do you really want to piss the person off who's making your gear by hand ? That's like calling the chef and ass just before he cooks your food.

I've actually got a portaledge ordered for next year; I ordered it about a year ahead of time and told Russ when I would need it. Russ responds quickly to my emails. I really hope your buddy follows your advice and returns the ledge and I get his fly. Did he order a double? That would be very excellent. I order fish gear because his products are the best and come recomended highly/completely by friends I have great respect for and are vastly more experienced than me. Rei is open every day 9-5 and stocked to the gills with stuff I don't need. Maybe you should cruise by and ask to have them hook you up.

He's done nothing but go to bat for you since your mouth grew wide, and yet it keeps getting wider. I'm sure you have a way to justify it, but to me it appears to be a conflict of interest on your part. There's more. Where once I thought you were funny and interesting, you now sound shrill and repetetive to me. Where once I thought you were civil and thick skinned, you now seem overly sensetive and willing to flame at the drop if a hat. You do it almost every single post -- even though nobody has done what you say they're going to do... or have done... I admit, it's difficult to dicipher your opinion on that....

I respected everything about you on this site, including your willingness to stand up for what you believed in, because you did it with such flare. I know you and I don't agree on RC.com-related issues -- that isn't what I'm talking about here. I'm talking about the way you have begun to express your opinions. You sound more like a garden-variety troll than the dingus milquetoast I once looked up to. And now here you are, complaining about heavyhanded moderation in a thread in which moderators have taken a distinctly light hand by asking people to keep it civil. No posted censored. No posts edited. Throw me a bone dingus, if for no other reason than for the respect that I think we once had for each other. Explain to me what, exactly, you're so upset about? Nobody has censored your opinions about the site, even though they aren't exactly expressed maturely these days. (I believe you called them a bunch of fucking skydivers, and still no editing or censoring!) I once went to bat for you, too, when a certain admin who is no longer around much attacked you as a broken down, cantankerous hasbeen with no place on the booty crew. It was worth it then, because that person was flat-out wrong. But if I were still running the Booty Crew, I'd have little choice but to at least reconsider my stance. Bring back the old dingus! The one who expressed his opinions like the true writer he is! He was interesting and I could be swayed easily by his arguments. In the meantime, the new dingus can bite the same dogshit the mods aren't fit to edit, knowwhatImean?

Wow, Battle Royal. First Sentinel jumps in to the ring and calls out Fish products, in true WWF sh!t-talking fashion. Russ runs out of the audience and hops into the ring for a little squaring off. After a couple a minutes the crowd grows restless and jumps in on the action, pouncing on Sentinel. Reno steps in to ref, tries to throw a yellow card and a little mano a mano erupts between him and Dingus. The camera pans back to the gang fight on Sentinel for awhile when J_ung runs into the ring and hits Dingus over the back with a folding chair. Man, Monday Night Smackdown... intense. I want some action. [DA looks around for an innocent bystander, spots Pmyche minding his own business]. You... yeah you, Pmyche... ummmm, “You suck”.

Even the use of the word "dissent," makes this seem like the owners are some sort of repressive government and the "dissenters" are heroic freedom fighters. Is that how you view yourselves? Disagreeing is fine. Being an asshole about it is lame. It means you let some changes to a website dictate how you treat other people. It really is that simple.

just thought I'd add to this thread some personal experience from several years ago.... I ordered a ledge andd fly from Fish, gave him a set date that I was leaving on a roadtrip. I think I placed the order perhaps five months in advance. Came down to my departure time, I emailed him, he emailed back, telling me essentially to "chill out." I cancelled the order. My credit card was never billed. that is all.

Russ has a link to his site in his signature, but here it is again: http://www.fishproducts.com/. From what I hear it's good stuff, and not all wall-related.

ok jay. Maybe 'dissent' wasn't the best word choice on my part. But whatever! I don't really need to rehash all those issues up here again. I actually thought dingus's story about the company that got purchased pretty much sums up how I feel about this site these days. but to attempt to 'shame' someone for speaking their mind is like, super-lame. I wasn't just thinking of you in this thread, reno's been running that angle for a while now. Implying we should all be really really grateful, shaming us for aruging in a thread about dead people that really wasn't about dead people, etc. It's galling when someone tries to assume some sort of moral authority, when you don't think they have it. Does that remind you of anything?

thomasribiere wrote: what is a fly, climbing speaking??? It's the first time I hear that. Is this aid climbing related? A fly is used on a portaledge when you expect bad weather. A portaledge (from the rc.com dictionary) is a "portable and colapsable ledge used for sleeping on a big wall or multi-pitch climb requiring more than one day to complete." It's like a rainfly for a tent, only specially designed for a ledge.

We ate the old lady, instead. She was little gamey, but that salt you dug out of the luggage sure did the trick.

Sure as hell. All this "Can't ya just argue with some respect for each other?" is really a subliminal "You Will Conform" message. Don't mind that flickering of your computer screen.... and there really isn't any low-volume whistle coming from the speakers, either. Here's the funny thing: YOU are free to speak your mind, voice an opinion, criticize anyone, and then you claim you're exercising your rights. When I try to speak my mind, voice my opinion, or criticize anyone, you claim I'm a puppet for the man. That's some logic, pal.

You know...I get that a lot. We were out doing a new route and my buddy found a way around an all points throw for the last move on a route (he unearthed a pocket). I said: "HRMPFHHFOPHF $%&*$ Dang it, I'm gonna have to come out and fill in that pocket!" and then I walked away. A few minutes later, the group asked me if I was serious......."OF COURSE NOT!!!!"

You think the CEO of The North Face gives two shakes whether you buy a ledge? Don't count on it. Looks like Russ is going to have to change that particular mission statement. How about, "another reason is putting your money into a real climbing company run by a real climber who really couldn't care less whether you get what you pay for and is happy to say so to your face or on the internet. You think the CEO of Fish gives two shakes whether you pay for a ledge? Of course he does. He depends on your business to eat dinner tomorrow. He couldn't care less whether you actually get a ledge because that doesn't affect him at all, in fact it's cheaper for him to just not bother". I thought I'd point out a little blurb you (or the OP's friend) might have missed:
In reply to: Need a ledge??? ORDER NOW AND WE AIN'T KIDDING!!!! If you plan on having a FISH ledge this summer, order quick. A5/Anker has tossed in the towel and that means your choices are once again limited... this means we will be selling more ledges. This means your wait could be long and painful, like months. Get your order in now for Summer! Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't want someone to cash my check and not send my order shortly thereafter. It sounds like the orderer received the ledge without the fly, which is a bit of a different story. If this announcement was on Russ' site when the guy ordered, it sounds like fair warning. I don't know what has gone on outside of this thread, but Russ has offered a refund. From all accounts, it sounds like you need to be patient if you're ordering Fish products. Again, I don't think that's unknown to most people. I don't know Russ, and I'm not trying to defend him. I just think some of you are going over the deep end.

Hey Russ, if you end up sending this guy a refund...I hope you whipe your ass with the receipt before you send it to him! What a douche! If your gonna rip on a company, structure your argument so it doesn't come across like a fuckin temper-tantrum. Your anger and threats make me doubt every last thing you've said. To those that doubt Russ, just take a look at the info that he's posted and keeps on his site. I bet your having a hard time drinkin' all those beers people are buying you now! As for stopping somone at the porch...might I suggest the Benelli M4? http://www.benelliusa.com/firearms/m4.tpl Cheers, Jim

WELL 4 MONTHS IS A LONG TIME! Realisticaly, I hope Russ is telling these folks the lenght of time a transaction on one of these could take, I'd want to get them both shipped at the same time too. --------------------------------------------------------- On another rant: I've been thinking of ordering a FISH chalkbag for over 5 months now, seriously thinking about it I mean, and haven't heard a damn thing about it from Fish. No phone calls and e-mails. I would have a pair of Russian Aiders too but he still hasn't made the hooks. I have been thinking about ordering these for almost a year now cause the aiders are so beautiful. This is just fuc&*ed up consumerism. Both Ujahn and I could have used a pair 4 weeks ago when we got our asses kicked all over the Monkey Face in 30+ MPG winds and in freezing temps too. Since I haven't gottne around to ordering the stuff for so long, you'd have thought I'd have heard from SOMEBODY at Fish. Well, maybe his thread is a good start. Big Rant: How come Mowz got rid of the Mowz beer keg dancers anyway? This site is going to hell I tell you. Now....what were we discussing?

This thread is just what I needed to get me off my ass. I am healing from shoulder surgery that will never allow my free climbing level to advance beyond what it currently is. This has me getting ready to do some grade VI stuff starting in summer 08 and I know I will not purchase the big wall stuff anywhere else, and for good reason. I will need a ledge to sleep on but the fly will be to save my life, or at least a visit from Warner B. When the shit hits the fan I want my safety gear made by someone who has my best interest at heart,(read only proper materials), and not just a sale, read(fast service of a fly that may or may not hold off a storm on a big rock). I am more interested in never getting my ass dead than having my shit in the garage just hanging around to show off for my buddies to oooh and aaah at. I would rather sweat it out on a 9 month wait, down to a last minute deadline, to get a good working piece, maybe even ugly colors, make that definitely ugly colors, Cause I know Russ is good to his word on deadlines, if he says you'll have it by then I trust that he will make it happen. Just the type of guy his friends know that he is. When it hits the fan, this is the equipment I want sheltering me from the beyond, not some fast good looking, maybe weather proof fashionable ledge, made in who knows where by who knows what kind of craftsman. When the money gets freed up this spring Russ will see my order and if he says I'll have my stuff i will just bite the bullet with my wants and just put in the wait that it takes to get the right equipment. Thanks Sentinel for being such a big mouthed bad friend to your buddy and helping me get my stuff ordered soon enough for the 08 season. Probably even going to have to get a bottle in the mail too, what kind of booze was it he likes, ( No strings attached here Russ), just like to lube the friction. Bob
