So, we've been thinking about buying a house for a while, but after looking around at the market, kinda decided it'd be much easier to get what we want if we just build. About a week and a half ago, we made a mutual decision on a block, and put a deposit down. Looked around at a bunch of display homes, talked to a few different builders, saw some lovely ideas. Problem is, she's been unfailingly negative about every single one. "So, perhaps if we went with these guys...?" "No. I don't like them." "How about this idea?" "No. That's stupid." "Well, how about this?" "Don't like it, and anyway it's too expensive." "How about... " "No." "But..." "No." "But I think..." "No." So, tonight I give up, and say that I'll cancel the contract on the block tomorrow (we're still within our two week grace period). ... ... ... "What, don't you like it?" GAAAAAAAAAAH!

My wife and I have a spare lot on our property. We have been discussing building or putting up a modular for about twenty to twenty five years. I think we may be close to the same page now. My little road trip has not been exactly what I was expecting. I am spending most of my time helping my sister as she battles cancer. It is sad. Ya'll have a great day. I've got my coffee.

snow.....white stuff....shared w/someone recently that the only chance i have of seeing white stuff here is to go to a poorly lit house, knock on the door and buy it!! the quantity of purchasable stuff might equal the amount that *might* fall on my yard! blondgecko....you need a shot of bourbon with that coffee!

Hang in there Charley. Gecko, your wife's not insane. On the contrary, she sounds par for the course based on my experience.

Morning all, Another late night babysitting the printer while these Christmas presents print out....they look really nice but it takes so friggin' long! UPDATE: My neighbour's car still has not moved. BG - Find out what her issues are with those builders specifically, maybe that'llgive you a better idea how to approach things. Personally I'd much rather renovate something than build from scratch, and if it's a subdivision home, I've heard nothing but bad stories about those. If it's a singel house build, it can be better, but keep your eye on EVERYTHING, you'd be surprised what goes on while you aren't there. Good Luck

Went to bed last night thinking it was Thursday and reset my alarm to wake up and meet some friends for breakfast. I actually needed some extra sleep so ended up waking up for nothing so give me plenty of extra coffee today. Anybody going climbing over the Holidays? I don't know that I will make it outdoors, but I hope to next Wednesday. I need it right now, thinks are kind of stressful.

"The Xmas Guerilla Climb" I call it. My town, Milford, MA, was once one of the top granite producers in the northeast (and in fact there's a type of granite known aroud the world as "Milford Pink" which came only from my town), and local construction projects always reveal lots of rock. a few years ago a shopping center was built that created (by uncovering and blasting) a long wall of beautilful Milford Pink, that I put two self-belay top-rope routes up on last christmas day. there's alos a 500 or so foot long traverse to be done. the weather is looking like it'll be cooperative this year, so I'm making plans. I might also get out to Quincy Quarries, if I can find anyone to go with.

They would flip out though if I left to "solo" climb. I'm going to try to get out the day after if I can find somebody to join me.

BFR, I'm going ice climbing at least a few days. Sunday was supposed to be the first day, but I think I'm getting a cold. That day might not happen. At any rate, I'm looking forward to trying out my new tools I'll take coffee with a dose of Vitamin C.

Man of leisure today. Gonna grab a cup of tea, see what's on the tivo and go to the gym this afternoon. I'm glad I don't have an insane wife anymore - I thank my lucky stars I just have a parasitic moneygrabbing ex-wife. At least my time is my own even if my money isn't.

gecko, isn't your wife pregnant.........she's entitled to be confused!!!! morning all, coffee please. I'm not feeling any love this am. It snowed all day yesterday and they cleared my street, but didn't sand. my friend was driving me home and did two 360's before she stopped. Two other cars hit the ditch. it's a pretty steep pitch, but the plowers never learn. I walked up town for my massage and on the way home did the heel slide onto my back in front of my house. I'm still hurting today. I missed the staff dinner last night because i couldn't get my bloody car out of the driveway!!!!!

Charley, sorry to hear about your sister... hang in there. Blond_gecko, no worries, your wife is a normal female. You can't expect her to make a decision like that in a hurry... LOL, ask my husband how many times he went back to the paint store to get the bathroom paint right...

Morning all. Charley hang in there, you're in my thoughts & prayers as is your sis & the rest of your fam. I'm glad you can be there to help her. BG your wife sounds normal. We can be frustrating at times. ;) You'll figure it out I am sure. It's Happy Friday to me! I'm off to the airport in T minus 6 hrs and will land in WI within 15 hrs. Keep your fingers crossed the flurries stay away til Friday. I want to make it home on time & safely. Things are perking up again - I've got a phone interview tomorrow for a copywriter job in Denver. When I get back in Jan, I'll be meeting with a local magazine editor about writing an advice column for her new publication and/or web site. I'll do it for free for awhile til we can build up the readership for her. It's great exposure for me and will help with my book proposal. Woo woo. Yay me! I feel a lot better today - 1,000X better than I've felt all week. Next round is on me kids. Enjoy.

I was told by HR I was free to apply for any other position so I asked to be considered for it, but she replied back and told me they already made an offer. Why can't people just tell you no? Why do they have to mask it?

I am considering it, but I need to save a bit more money first and time my prescription medication right. Via mail order I can have about 4 months worth on hand. Without a job I would also have to do something with my house here. But I do plan on making it happen :).

Can you rent out your house? Yeah it can be a challenge and it takes a great leap of faith in yourself (and the Universe if you're so incliend to believe in such things). I lined up a really minimal volunteer job that had a small stipend...that was the security I needed. If I had to do it over again I'd probably save up some $$, sell most of my s**t and just go. You can make anything happen if you want it bad enough. Just keep your eye on the prize and you'll see opportunities to get the prize. :)

Maybe blondegecko could get his wife to sign up and read the good advice here? She might see his point of view - although to be fair he'd also see all the derogatory accusations he posted about her and the responses about how she's a typical woman. Well, maybe not I guess.

Well, maybe not I guess. dude, in the interest of at least trying to embrace the good christian fellowship I have never even seen you pretend to, but ordinarily is part of the christian ethic worldwide at this time of year, could you POSSIBLY lay off your role as biggest buzz-killing douche in the universe, and at least pretend to some sort of friendliness? even Pinkie knows when to give it a Chill. seriously Dave, GET PROFESSIONAL HELP. seriously, do you HAVE to come into every thread and fuck it up? what the fuck is your major malfunction?

I wish we could have a thread that would stay on topic and not wander off. Not laying blame or pointing fingers anywhere, just putting my 2 cents out there. It's definitely lessening my interest in the RC.com community.

Sorry, but the thread drift is where conversation happens. I like it. Clearly I haven't explained my point properly. I'm not talking about just the coffee thread nor I am talking about tangental conversations. Notice how many threads end up degrading or ripping on someone. Threads become online wars & fights - lots of needless drama and drivel. It's fine for topics to get off tangent of course but the drama I could live without. Typically I just ignore the flaming and the thread but it seems to have spread to more than just a few threads lately.

That story would only be normal if the perfect color ended up being the first one he brought home ;) ...and only after the first coat was applied was he sent back to get the color "right". And the first coat was dark, so it had to be primed...again...before putting up the perfect color Very close: Base color was a little lighter than it should have been, but O.K. The sponged-on color was way-too-light and pronounced unacceptable. The 3rd color was too gray. The 4th color was too blue. The color that was finally applied to the wall as the second sponging color was the mix of colors 3 and 4...

That's all that the BET is. It's just one huge conversation that keeps going on. Everyone has issues to vent, talk about, seek advice, or just somewhere to dick off for a few hours. The best coffee threads are the ones that have drifted into something totally off topic. Do Me Chair In all fairness the thread drifts are what bring me here. Oh, yeah... Still snowing. Cup 18. Christmas party sucked, so I came back to work...

Again epoch I missed fully clarifying my point: thread drifts I don't mind, flaming crap & drama I can't stand. If it's about the BET, I'm gonna ignore it. Just not my thing in there.

We don't talk about the BET in the BET, that would be silly. We talk about much more stuff in there. Though, the conversations move quickly in there. Drama is what holds the internet together.

krillen wrote: There is MUCH more to the internet than flaming...there's naked ladies too. How does the old saying go? If you took all the porn off the internet, all that would be left is a single page asking for all the porn back. I finally made it to Portland to see my folks. Unfortunately, I left my phone in Breckenridge after trying to climb Lincoln Falls. We bailed to get coffee after being stymied by the huge number of what appeared to be high schoolers, climbing ice for the first time for some kind of television show. Hopefully I'll get my phone back, but man, the silence is nice.

No plans to play yet, but I ceratinly want to get some licks in over the break.....I'd like to play my guitar too! Way back in 2001 (when I joined the site) I was a fan of the cartoon....haven't seen it in a while now...

Think of how much porn has pushed the envelope in terms of video /audio media delivery. Lots of money to be made coupled (HA!) with a highly competetive market has garantteed that most new technolgies will have a chnace ot make more porn...I mean money.

There are only a FEW movies that show just the explosions in multiple views etc. Porn was the only one to use it at all for years.

I posted something in reply to the original coffee topic, GU style... then read the next 3 pages.... only to find *SURPRISE* my original reply was less than timely. I could comment about porn, movies, the BET, bitterness, serial Internet drama, etc but its late and I'm sure you all have kissed and made up, by now We got about 5 inches of wet snow in maybe 2 or 3 hrs here. Right at the evening commute! I bailed on taking my son to hockey and we jsut hid out at a restaurant until everyone was done sliding around. Charley, I send major kudos for providing support for your sister. I hope her prognosis will be alright. And I truly hope, someday, we can come up with something more humane than chemo to fight cancer.

Every time you pop a Disney flick into your DVD player, thank the folks at Vivid or Wicked or whoever, because porn drove the technology. Tape looked crappy and they knew it, but film was WAYY to expensive for "Wild Eyed Ass Bangers 32". They needed a cheap, yet good quality medium that could be copied quickly for distribution. And as for money to be made you don't have to be in the films, or even in the same state. Now you can be a silent investor. Enter "Adult-Vest.com" Hmmm..the site ain't workin'. Is that the right link?? I'm gonna find it somehow - this is so my cup of tea. ;)
