What are the best highball boulder problems in the US Southeast.? V0 - V8.? Everything Ive seen on the web looks like short sit-down problems. Any classics in HP40 or Little Rock City or anywhere else.?

+1 WV. You should also check the Cotton Hill Top area at the New, and Grandmother Mountain in NC, tons of highball stuff there, from v0 to v-wayfuckingharderthani'lleverclimb

Definitely Mortal Kombat, super classic line. At rocktown there is 20 feet of fun. Boat rock there is Yellow Arete which i would consider a highball there was a bolt at the top of it for a while.

You really consider mortal combat a highball? I just consider it a shitty landing. With good spotters and enough crash pads, the fall potential is around the same as many other problems at hp40. There are several other highballs around HP40 though. I believe there's a highball offwidth crack if you're into that sort of thing. Me? I'm a giant pussy when it comes to highballing, so I've mostly avoided them and can't provide any insight into their quality.

if its not highball its definitely gettin there. No its not the tallest problem but its pretty tall. And the crux is in the last couple feet. But yea if you put the same problem over flat ground it wouldn't be nearly as scketchy. Plus its up on that platform which makes it seem a bit higher I guess.

Roof of Death (v5) - Blowing Rock Boulders, NC M1(v3) - 221 Boulders, NC 2 classic lines! Mortal combat at horse pens was also really cool.

A lot of the Rocktown problems are decently high. A classic that comes to mind is Croc Bloc, V5. Very good landing but the topout's around 18 feet.

yeah, i actually was topping out croc bloc, had both feet on the top edge and slipped backwards off of it. i landed on a pad on my feet and broke my talus in my ankle. 5 months of crutches and 2 more of a boot. fun problem, not a fun injury.

The SE is littered with quality highballs. Head to any of the major areas and you will find world class highballs. 3 that I highly recommend from the Boone area are The Horn (V2) and Heady Undercling (V3) at Blowing Rock Boulders and M-1 at the M-1 boulder on Rt. 221. Let me warn you right now these aint know gym grades. Get ready to want em. As DreDay already mentioned Scudbuster at the New is 5-star and tall. Oh shit another must do is the Stevie Wonder arete at Coopers Rock.

What about the highballs at Panola and Kennesaw. The arete at Kennesaw was the hardest problem in the SE for along time.

Too many to list.... First, LRC ist the home of the highball...if you get on the right problems... Boulderproblem from Hell, Kaya, Stormin the castle, Heroin.....many many more... Rocktown....more that you would ever want to do....not enough established there for you...go clean some holds, and there are more highballs left to do there than you would care for. North carolina...bring your sack or go home! M1 and roof of Death as already mentioned are classics. Also Rwa Terror will get the juices flowin. DO not miss M1 if you come to NC. At Grandmother boulders the whole great roof area and long wall area have your hig ball problems covered with problems from v1-v10+ Rumbling Bald...yeee haww!!!! Class highballs include the classic overhang V3, Requim for a tree V7/8, The Panhandler V6 (must do!), Helicopter V5, Trad Boys v4. Many many more..... Go have fun and scare yourself a little!!!! Let me know if you need any more beta for NC. I'd be happy to show you around. Matt

It v1 or so but seems harder due to exposure/consequenses. The climber in the pic is just past the crux.

If you could only climb in one state on the east for the rest of your life make it WV. Coopers Rock has the highest quality boulders anywhere with the most badass highballs (but with clean flat landings) such as Twist Da Hick v5, mountaineers route v5, to the downright scary tall slightly overhung fingerlockin Electric Avenue v4. Then head South and hit up the New River Gorge. As John Sherman said, "the New would be a bouldering mecca if not for all those damn cliffs!" Check out Hawk's Nest at the NRG. More highball problems than you could ever know what to do with on the most perfect bulletproof sandstone. Check out Wingspan v4, Shark fin v2 or v4, White Eyebrow v7, Breast Arete v5, I could really go on forever... Both areas have pretty good guide books and plenty of fun stuff around them as well. Coopers Rock is located outside WVU, which was the #1 party school in the nation last year and has been in the top ten forever if that's your style. Lots of cool stuff, good restaurants, an awesome scene for climbers. The NRG climbs are all centered around the town of Fayetteville, WV which has been voted one of america's coolest small towns and was in climbings top ten climbing towns to live in. Now I hope WV qualifies as SE for you. If so, that's where you need to be.
