Haven't really found much in the way of climbing specific clothes (trad & bouldering), I mostly just use whatever loose shorts or pants I already have around. Be nice to at least have something bit more climbing specific, cut so you can stem fully for example, and a waist that doesn't interfere with the harness. Also a fly of some type any favorites out there or fave companies. Just poking around not seeing a lot. thanks

I recieved a pair of Prana shorts as a gift...I really like them. I think they are mojo shorts designed for climbing and they dry super quick if you go for a dip. check here... http://www.mec.ca/Products/product_listing.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302881208&bmUID=1228301763257 sorry not sure why it's not a link...copy&paste

I don't buy women's "climbing clothes" because the designers, in the name of fashion and never-ending cutesiness, put the @#$*!#! waistbands down low on my hips right where my harness sits. Just what I wanted - a bunch of fabric and seams getting squished into my skin. And let's not talk about the shirts that only pretend to reach the pants. They staunchly refuse to stay tucked under my harness and instead float around on top and get in the way of my gear loops. And maybe the twentysomethings are ok showing off some midriff, but at 46, mine is probably better left covered. Manufacturers, are you listening? How about some functional women's climbing wear? Kathy

If it's just for cragging or bouldering then I'd suggest baggy board shorts (but not overly baggy). Just remember to wear close fitting boxers, no one wants to be spotting you with their eye closed/seared from their very skulls. For longs check out the thrift shops for cheap but burly feeling jeans/chords that let you move around a plenty.

Kathy I agree with you in principle, but wondering- -why is you HARNESS sitting low on your hips? Maybe you need a harness with a bigger raise? I like low--waist pants for climbing precicely BECAUSE the waistband on them sits lower than the harness waist and thus doesn't interfere with the harness. The harness waist fits pretty much at the natural waist for me. Oh, and having the harness waist higher also helps the tank tops stay tucked.

I like to climb in a salty pair of cammies, and have all the other climbers ask why my name is above my right back pocket and what the red patches are for. And if that makes no sense to you consult your local marine.

I climb in everything from carharts, to shorts from walmart, but my favorite is the Prana Titan pant (and the shorts are good too) I don't think climbing specific clothing is neccesary and I avoided it for a long time, and happily, I don't climb any better in prana's but they are comfy, look good, move well, and are super durable.

It depends. I have a couple pairs of Sugoi Latte running pants that I love for cold weather. The only downside is that they don't stand up so well to real abuse (i.e. chimneys and off-widths). Otherwise, they are the most comfortable and functional (i.e. trim cut, awesome materials) pants I've ever worn. Hind also makes some good stuff. For warm weather, I like the Prana Mojo shorts. The wide elastic waistband is comfortable and doesn't pinch under a harness. Alas, these do not hold up well under abusive conditions either. For offwidth and chimney climbing, I wear jeans.

Does a number on crowding at the crag too. Bust out a pair of tights and folks start finding other places to be.

I like what's on sale. But, the best pair of shorts I've got are Arc'teryx Palisade shorts (a few years old) when they were made out of the heavy cloth. Tough, comfortable, well fit. Then they went to light weight cloth which was okay but not nearly as nice. Then they changed the design. And they cost like $80 for a pair of shorts. Right. I hate elastic waist bands.

In reply to: Manufacturers, are you listening? How about some functional women's climbing wear? That doesn't just go for gals. I've got a couple of pairs of prana pants. Both were bought to the same waist-size and length. One pair has a waist that fits well, with a little room if needed, but can be tightened if I'm feeling skinny. The other pair, has a ridiculously tight waist, yet fits flawlessly in all other regards. And we're talking about my bones here, not the extra I pack from drinking beer. Seriously prana, a 32" waist is just that. It's not different on different days of the week. Also, what I'd really like is the same length of leg, but the option to get a 34" waist that I could snug up, or relax while I'm porking out. Get it? Some people have different bodies than others! Given that Prana was owned and designed by Liz Claiborne, you'd think they'd have this crap worked out. I still like the pants. But I went climbing in heavy carharts the other day, the kind with saw-guards and big brads for suspenders and, know what? They worked as well as any other clothes I've ever worn. And when I plumped up from eating later that night, I just undid my belt.

As I said on the clothing thread; stone coloured climbing trousers I bought from Mountain Hardware, the clothing there is the best in my personal view, for women at least. Though MEC is also good. I wear shorts too, lycra, and not just for climbing, but running or hiking too.

If I got lower cut pants, I'd risk a case of plumber's crack during a high step. Most women's tops barely reach my waist, much less come down far enough to tuck in. Hmmmm. Maybe the clothes are fine and I'm the one who's proportioned funny. Kathy

I actually started wearing my husbands (USN) PT gear from boot camp with a pair of biking shorts underneath for summer climbing. He's been enlisted for 11 years and outgrew his stuff a LONG time ago. Oddly enough, the only one to have ever noticed, commented, or teased me about it was an ex-bubblehead. Anyhow- the shorts are a poly/nylon blend that sit at about the same level as my harness. They're soft, loose and comfortable. BUT- they also ride up a bit, hence the biking shorts. When I get sick of trying to shave around the scratches and scrapes on my legs, I usually switch to an old pair of blue jean capris.
