I am trying to figure out how many people have basic or higher medical training . If you had any medical first aid ( as listed above) training, how long you been certified and what is your current status (rating).

Sorry folk, having CPR cert (8 hr course) alone does not qualify .

Thanks

MS

I'm in there somewhere but I don't see how to log it. I began with first aid and CPR sometime around 1989 or 90. Went to WEMT in 94, re-certified once and then let it all lapse sometime around 98, I think. Four years ago I started guiding rafts and went back to CPR and WFA, plus basic swift water. Currently, that's what I've got for cards.

Shouldn't you have a 'none' option to represent the rest of the population? Otherwise it seems all climbers have some sort of cert.

I was a certified EMT, drove an ambulance for the city of PHL. My certification has long lapsed.

Falling doesn't kill people, WFRs kill people.

EMT and RN in a emergency department. BLS, ACLS, PALS, Hazmat, ICS...too much training to remember it all.

EMT-I, though I've let my certification lapse. I suppose this counts, as I still have all the training. Also, Outdoor Emergency Care and several other courses as required by National Ski Patrol.

It's curious that Majid would make this poll, yet he didn't put in an option to allow him to vote.

Just recerted my WFR so I put 4 even though it's more like 3 and 1/2. I'm curious for how many people these certs are work related?

Here's what you need to be a WFR:

Stop the bleeding
Stablize the spine
Keep the victim warm
Get help.
Buy our overpriced first aid kits.

There, I saved y'all $600!

I am surprise to see that more climbers (especially in north America) have medical first aid training and their present or responses in crag accidents is actually helping a lot in the entire EMS process.

I am also 15+ FR certified and currently working on my WFR and EMT.

You have mistaken me. I don't doubt at all that you have a lot of medical training, I just don't think that you're a climber.

Here's a question: How have people found it easiest to suggest to partners that they get some training?

Ditto, except I'm "so close to the back half of medical school I can taste it- or is that the pain of heme-onc I taste?".....

rest is the same though Wink

Fuck heme-onc.

I barely passed that crap. Of course, that was the product of me electing not to study for our final and instead spend the weekend prior doing a high angle rescue certification course.

Where are you in school?
