We are heading out to boulder for the weekend to see what it's like. We are a bit interested in maybe living somewhere a little closer to nice mountains, and are curious if the land of fit hipsters is really the promised land they all tell me it is 
Mostly we could live near mountains and still have good jobs (maybe even the same jobs, as mine has an office in Broomfield, CO)
just in general looking around to see if there is a place we like more than where we are now

From Boulder you head up Boulder Canyon to Nederland, then take the Peak to Peak highway into Estes. Just a bit over an hour, but a gorgeous ride. Boulder Canyon and a lot of the Flatirons are open to climbing, as is Lumpy Ridge , but Eldo is closed. For Sport, Golden & Clear Creek is only 45 minutes.
How long are you in town? And git off ma lawn!!!

Depending on traffic, expect a couple of hours to get there from Boulder. The drive is nice, though. The park is worth it, too. If it's sunny then the climbing at Lumpy Ridge is worth it also.
We went to dinner in Boulder our last night there and I realized it represents a real crux for me: it's not my kind of town at all, but those are the people I need to buy my art.
BTW - upon seeing the homeless bums in Boulder, remember that probably 60% of them probably crank 5.13 or harder. Not everyone there is pretentious, and not everyone who looks downtrodden really is.

Aaaand, proud of it! I went to a supertopo Boulder climbers dinner last night, and met 15 amazing people. Good times.
I found some shop space to rent starting Nov. 1, and am already lining up furniture commissions. The last month and a half I have been splitting time working for a climber/general contractor and a cabinetmaker and can make more in a week than I could in a month in Cow Hampshire. Climbed at Eldo & Boulder Canyon, great hikes right out my door, 'sall good. I'm loving it here.

Not long, flying in Friday night (Nov 1) and leaving Sunday night. Mostly the plan is to just explore and see if it's anything we might even consider. If we really like the area, we will probably plan a longer trip later on

Golden was nice; we stayed there for 2 weeks in the RV right on Clear Creek about 2 blocks from downtown. The vibe was a bit young and raucous for us, being a college town, but the biking and hiking trail system is top notch. The local climbing tends more toward sp0rt, and is not nearly as classic or varied as Boulder.
And Boulder isn't pretentious, it's just the best damned cultural, climbing, and economic place to live in the US, you third world dwelling Neanderthal.

Calling it cultural is a stretch. I agree there's lots of pretentious money there and the climbing is decent, though Boulder Canyon is WAY overrated. Still, it's close to other stuff I guess.
