i have mine done on the bottom

I initially wanted to do it on the bottom as well, but then i realized there's no room to do it there. So I got it done on the top, and when it heals I want to get a second one and possible a third one (I have an oddly shaped belly button and there's enough room for three piercings)

I'm still a little unfamiliar about it though, I've had it for over 24 hours now and have cleaned it a couple times with Neutrogena unfragranced antibacterial liquid soap, but I'm uncertain as to how many times I should be cleaning it. Everyone tells me not to touch it or it'll get infected, but I still have to clean it, right? How can you tell when it's infected??

i have no idea how you'd manage to soak your belly button in salt water with out having a salt water bath or hitting the ocean...

You put the salt water into a small Dixie cup, lean forward, press the rim of the cup against your belly, and sit back.

I did that (good excuse to sit on the couch and watch a sitcom for 30 minutes), washed with Dial, and occassionally sprayed an non-oily antiseptic (Bactine, I think) on it. Never had any problems. Never did anything special with my clothes. For the first few weeks, I wore a big band-aid over it when I climbed. The band-aids were for children and had pictures on them (smiley faces, peace signs, etc) so they were a big hit at the cliffs.

I got mine done about a month ago. Mine was okay and at about 24 hours, I got a 'halo' of redness around the top and bottom of the piercing (got the top of my belly button done) and it was a little bit hot. I got worried but stuck it out. It hurt like a B*TCH! Couldn't sleep on my stomach, no snug hugs from anyone. Thought for sure it was infected. Kept washing it 2 times a day with anitbacterial soap, used bacatracin (liquid and the gel). The redness went away with in 2 weeks as did the pain. If you see green discharge, or are running a fever, good chance it is infected. Expect to see some yellowish slime come out and some crusting. It is normal. Keep it moving though. The bactine liquid gets into the piercing really well...move it while you squirt some on and the bactine ointment keeps the skin from sticking to the ring so you don't get that pain when you go to move it. You should only really need to take special care of it like this for 2 to 3 weeks. It is one of the best things I have done for myself. I liked it so much I got my ear cartlidge in the top done. Keep doing what you are doing and it will get better.......

mine was fine when i had it done and never got infected , i used a antiseptic spray called savlon - dont know if you can get it over there! but over time your ring grows out and the bit of skin which is actually pierced gets thinner and thinner which means it can be ripped out easier. i ended up taking mine out, felt a little bit sad when all the 14 year olds were getting it done

Seriously try the neutogena bar soap that is called 'pure'. It has nothing in it. Antibacterial stuff like bactine is ok, but sometimes too harsh. Also, in some cases antibacterial soap kills the good bacteria that you need to heal. Just make sure when you are washing it you turn the ring in and out with the soap then rinse really well still turning it. That part hurts but is worth it.

I think the biggest factor in whether or not a harness would aggravate it is where your navel is located. I've never had trouble with mine, but my navel is also freakishly located about 2 inches below my natural waist, so my harness is never rubbing against it.

The red around the piercing is irritation from a low-level infection. quite normal -- you did create a hole in your body's best immunological defense system. Unless you are cleaning it, you should not touch the piercing. You really need to be soaking it in sea salts. read earlier post.

Im 23, and ive had mine for 7 years.

Got it secretly when i turned 15- hid it from parentals for about 5 yrs

It never gives me any probs, was red ish for a week or so, then took about 6mths to completely heal- formed a keloid (raised scar around the piercing) which disappeared after the 6mths so all i have is a smooth piercing now which i can pull on and is quite sturdy. The trick is to keep it clean while it is healing and not get it caught on anything, or let clothes rub on it. I used sea salt and neutrogena soap.

ive got a ring in it, a barbell i guess would be better if ur worried about it ctching- ive never had probs (touch wood) and only ever take it out if im goin to be in a Mosh pit (put it straight in after coz the damn piercing will still close in matter of hours!!)

I still love it! Its a great lil piercing.

got mine done over 3 years ago....takes a couple of months to heal.....Just make sure you wear long t-shirts and dont let your harness rest on you belly button! Keep pants and belts also below your belly button!
Still love mine and get lots of compliments!
Good Luck
