Context is everything. It's hardly going to kill you--it'll just make you really, really stupid for a while. But, then, that's a condition of adolescence, isn't it? I survived pot and adolescence.
The problem, I think, is that there're no good boundaries established by the culture for experiences of intoxication. It's either a)"just say no" or b)get F'd up and drive Dad's car and kill yourself or your friend or some bystander or all three. People *will* intoxicate themselves. We're just bad at keeping them safe while they do so.
Ritual is good. A strong social network is good. You got those, you got no problem, in the long run. You don't got those, you got people who just want to get F'd up and stay F'd up, and then you got a problem.

I started in high school and to this day, I wish I hadn't. Maybe I would have paid more attention in class, been more motivated, blah blah blah, whatever. I think that if you're in school, that's what you should be focused on. Pot is an impediment to that focus. I speak from experience.

i started at the end of highschool, but i never really smoked, maybe a spliff every month or two, just for the feeling. nothing like lying somewhere outside stoned and watching shooting stas.
while im on it, the perseid meteor shower peaks tommorow and the day after evening. gonna watch if the weather stays good.

I started late, at 21-22... Hoepfully i didn't try earlier because he stones me that much that i wouldn't have studied much I suppose...
I'm not against, but some teenagers smoke too much and a too strong weed.
I wish they smoke with comprehensive adults and parents (what someteens do with me or what some parents i knwo do with their children) so they would smoke more intelligentlty...if taht can be. But, where's the rebellion???

Was around booze and weed (as well as a few other things since childhood)
Never was my thing. Didn't get drunk until I was 19 (though I had my first taste of beer at the ripe old age of three)
Didn't smoke weed until I was 26...after a bottle of Alize...so I couldn't really tell the difference.
Got completely f'd up with my little sister last year. Bong, shotgun, inhaled too much...passed out on the couch. Not my idea of fun.
Have taken a hit ever now and again. Quick buzz. Wouldn't spend my money on it though.
I'm more of a jager, aftershock, goldschloger shot-taking type of man
as far as age?
well, there's no major harm in a little hit...then again, there's no major harm in fingering your next-door neighbor...but I don't think parents would want their kids doing that either

Last time I hit it... brand new stuff. Stuck to your fingers. Giant giant giant blunt. 6 people. Four bailed... left it for us two to finish.
It was awful. I couldn't stop talking. I would try and stop talking and end up saying to myself "Hey man, you really need to stop talking. That girl right there thinks your weird. Ok, no seriously, stop talking."
All of this OUT LOUD.
I have never had so many women interested in my and subsequently scared that many away in the same night. Slept alone... talking myself to sleep. Argh. Haven't touched it since. That was 7 years ago.

tired it frist in highschool (my brother was an addict so i was and still may very opinionated about drugs)...so i tried it when i was 18 like 3 times....didn't like it....
since then......i had a toke at the Metallica Concert and once in the hot tub of my buddies place after a LONG day of climbing in SKAHA...

I smoked the 'bis through most of college. I wouldn't recommend trying it until at least 18 becasue you're still making important connections in your brain ( thank you Love Line and Dr. Drew). I don't know of any long term side affects that I have from the smoking. I just know how to smell out the good weed from the bad and how much is too much for a QP.
P.S. Zig-Zags are so much better than Tops.

Hmmm. Interesting topic. Smoked my first bowl at 13 and immediately found my new best friend. Sometime between then and when I went to rehab at age 19 it stopped working out so well for me. Hence, the difference between abuse and addiction. I knew a lot of people in HS/college who abused alcohol and drugs, but very few of them had the consequences associated with their use that I did.
What did my age have to do with it? Likely nothing. Not that I'm advocating Jr. HS kids go out and pick up some bud tonight, but I don't think the consequences of my addiction had anything to do with the age at which I first partook of the magic herb. In fact, to the contrary -- I was such an F'd up lil monkey in HS that I thank GOD for drugs. I'm not sure I would have survived my teens if I had to cope with reality every day during those years. Drugs worked to help me cope for a lot of years. And then, of course, there was a price to pay for learning to cope with chemicals rather than developing those skills at age appropriate levels. And that's when the consequences began...
Smoking pot is illegal. May be unfortunate, but that's the way it is. So the way I look at your question is, "what age is too young to have your first experience with breaking the law?" Is there ever an age where that becomes OK? Is there a birthday you hit when suddenly it's a good idea to commit a crime? I don't think so. Negative affects of the drugs aside (and MJ certainly isn't the worst of drugs -- in fact, it's pretty tame compared to what alcohol and tobacco do to the body), smoking pot is a bad idea to begin with because of the character issues it creates when you've consciously made the decision to do illegal drugs. That's a threshold many people shouldn't cross. Speaking from experience, it was the sneakiness and conning that I learn when doing/dealing drugs that has led to long term moral and character issues for me. But then again, I'm an addict. And that's something I'll always be working to overcome.
