Posted: 8/18/05 Woman injured in fall from climbing wall at county fair Northstar Access By Joel Stottrup The owner/operator of the portable climbing wall at the Mille Lacs County Fair in Princeton was injured when she fell from the top of the approximately 20-foot high structure Saturday about 7 p.m. Patricia Ellen McLaughlin, 55, of St. Louis Park, was listed in fair condition at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale Monday. Princeton police officer Todd Frederick said that witnesses of the accident who officers talked to said McLaughlin had climbed to the top of the wall to either fix something or retrieve a climbing harness. She then lost her balance and fell, said Frederick, and wasn’t wearing a harness. Mille Lacs County Undersheriff Alan Marxhausen and Mille Lacs reserve officer Dave DeWars were already on the scene when Frederick arrived. Frederick said McLaughlin was lying face down on the ground and that officers gave her appropriate first aid. North Memorial had a ground ambulance and its Air Care 4 helicopter ambulance in the area and both arrived shortly, the ground ambulance first, according to Frederick. A helicopter landing pad that was being used by a private helicopter ride concession at the fair was vacated to allow the Air Care 4 crew to land. The ground ambulance crew transported McLaughlin approximately one block to the landing pad south of the midway. Air Care 4 then transported her to North Memorial Medical Center. Frederick said that McLaughlin was unconscious but breathing when he saw her on the ground after he arrived at the scene. The police report stated that McLaughlin went in and out of consciousness. Frederick added that he and fellow officer Tom O’Donnell decided after the accident that it was best to not have the climbing wall used for the rest of the fair. The owner of the helicopter used in the helicopter rides is a friend of McLaughlin’s and he lowered the climbing wall back onto its trailer that evening and hauled it away the next day, said Frederick.

Only a 20' trailer wall? Is it even worth it? Hope she has a "recovery" and is well nonetheless.

I hope she recovers OK, but but getting a chopper rescue from a portable climbing wall will be difficult to live down... DMT
