Ok, I was working on a route with some really good pockets. I got home that night and noticed the joint on the inside of my index finger was black and blue and it felt like the vein was "bumped out". It is still like this three weeks later and it hurts so bad to touch it or have anything bump it. My husband swears it's a blood blister but it doesn't really look like one and i'm not about to pop it. Any ideas on what it is or suggestions?

Nice. 60 people have read this and apparently nobody has any idea. That's comforting. . . .

In reply to: Nice. 60 people have read this and apparently nobody has any idea. That's comforting. . . . ice elevation compression ? see a dr ? sounds like something popped. I had a similar thing happen to a knuckle, but without any memorable strain or injury - it just swelled up and turned blue for a few days. Iced and rested it and it was fine a week later, so it doesn't sound like the same thing you have going...

Could be a partial or full rupture the annular ligament / pulley. Go visit a doc. There's a whole article on that as it is a very common injury amongst climbers. Those kind of injuries may take months to heal, no fun with that :? I wish you luck! - Daniel

Which knuckle is it? Can you post a pic? If it's in the middle of your finger it could be a busted volar plate. If so, that's real bad news. A hand doc or hand therapist may be needed.

yeah, any time something is bruised for 3 weeks and that painful it warrents medical attention. If you have to go to a primary care doc make sure to get a referal for an orthopedic surgeon specializing in hands or a physical therapist who is also a Certified Hand Therapist (CHT). Good luck and report back. I'm curious as to what you did!
