I saw this recommended here saying that it's as dangerous as table salt.

Bought the stuff but the bottle is pretty scary - skull & bones, wash clothes if in contact, wash skin for 15 min, go see a doctor if sth else - so I am just looking for a confirmation that I can safely use it to prevent shoe stink w/o any problems

Reading through wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boric_acid) it appears relatively safe: "...generally not considered to be much more toxic than table salt." It may depend on the concentration of acid. Although it may be good for treating/preventing athlete's foot, I don't know about defunking shoes.
