Ok, I heard a vicious rumor today... Something about Trango will stop producing ice gear?

Why don't you PM Malady and find out instead of spreading rumors? (I think it's Malady). Edit: Correction, I think it's Maldaly

Hope the rumour isn't true. I hope it's a redesign process and not a complete production halt of their ice gear.

Then you'd really be up the creek with looking for new picks! yeah, for sure. at least they've kept the same pick for a while and some people may have them in stock. I'm beginning to think I might go to outdoors oriented and see if they can order me some.

I talked to malcom at the Ice Fest. He said it's true. He did say they'd keep producing picks and other replacement parts though. At least, I'm pretty surethat's what he said, I was pretty drunk.

Sorry to say it guys, but the rumor is true. We got really involved in the development of the Cinch and MaxCams and weren't able to update the 'Hooks so eventually they died on the shelf. Other tools and cramons were introduced that had great looks and decent performance and that's what sold at retail. We're going to keep the Scoprion and Harpoons in the line for the time being but everything else is gone. We'll keep picks around for quite a while so don't worry about that. All that said, I love my Headless Hooks and don't have any plans to quit using them. Despite their dated looks they allow this fat, out-of-shape, middle-aged, post-cardiac, multiple-amputee to climb harder ice than when I was young. My challenge is to update the 'hooks without changing their performance. Wish me luck. Mal

Mal, is this part of the refocusing on Extraordinary Climbing Gear we spoke of at OR last winter?

j_ung, Unfortunately, what was extraordinary five years ago in only ordinary today. That's life. If you can't play with the big dogs, get off the porch. So I'm off the porch and up on the roof, ready to whack 'em in the head. In a couple of years... From behind. Mal

Your character and decensy warrant applause. You are an exception to the rule of pissy staff/administrators/owners. Your picture in the mgear catalog, your kindness, and your athletic endeavors (ice and rock) are inspirational.

No offense taken. I lost all my pride when, as a freshman, my girlfriend announced that she decided that she was gay. Ouch!!! The wind's been at my back since then. Mal

Bummer Mal! I love my headless hooks and tried out the scorpion and found them to be a REALLY nice tool! I might even pick up a pair and use my 'hooks for more mixed stuff. Theres almost this stigma about using anything other than BD or Petzl tools. theres lots of good stuff out there.
