Are the Grivel Mixte picks still available? I can pick up a set of taa-k-oons for cheap, but if the mixte picks aren't available, it may not be worth it...

I checked online and only one place had them in the US, and nowhere in Canada (MEC doesn't carry them).

Have you actually called MEC? Quite often they remove gear from the web catalog, but it may still be available for phone orders. A while ago, I got myself a bunch of WC Heliums that way.

No I haven't called, but I checked online and went into the Calgary store and checked.

I'll try calling, thanks!

MEC has them, and Wicked Gravity can get them in if you're willing to pay shipping.

Found out today that Grivel has a new North American distributor, Liberty Mountain. Several shops in Alberta use them, including Wicked Gravity, Spirit West, and Vertical Addiction to name a few other than WallMEC.

As for the Taakoons got your PM just haven't had time to write up a response. They are a great tool if you like a refined swing with good head weight. I had the chance to replace my first set of taaks, I replaced them with another set of taaks... take that for what it's worth.

If you're in Calgary, Nick's Steakhouse and Pizza on Crowchild Tr. NW is where a bunch of us meet for a pint Wednesday evenings.

I have takkoons and love them. The MEC in Ottawa had a bunch of mixte and cascade picks left a few days ago (asked for them at the climbing counter).
