Is there any former Gripped Bullitin Board users here? Specifically from Vancouver or Squamish area. (Or anyone from the the area, period?) And if there is, have you heard or seen any of the construction blasting in the Cheakamus Canyon? I heard they've started, but I was wondering if any climbing near the highway has been affected. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

So far the highway project has not seen any blasting. They are due to start in late April. None of the crags adjacent to the Hwy will be affected, however they will be likely off limits for the summer. Once the work is done I'm sure the ambiance will be even worse with four lanes of traffic motoring through! Too bad 'cause the climbing on Ripple Tower is quite good! As far as Chek goes, you won't be able to access the Conroy Greek Forest service road during closures but if you get there before 9 am you should be able to climb. Watch for fly-rock from the blasting! Apparently it can fly up to a mile! Wear a helmet and just hope you are not busting a crux when the blast goes off! (twelve horn blasts indicate a blast is 2 minutes away!) Peace.

Hey, Aaron here, I was a frequent Gripped Bulletin Board user as well. Too bad it was shut down, can’t say that I blame any Gripped for shutting the thing down. Given the number of bored, apathetic kids who insisted on expressing their lack of power and authority in life buy vandalizing the board, I say good riddance. Long live Rockclimbing.com

Thanks for the heads up, Takeit... I was planning a week of camping and climbing up the Conroy Creek road for early May, but now...? !#*%@#*@$! :x Do you know where I could get firsthand knowledge of the construction schedule?

The schedule for road closures and other delays is published in the Pique news paper every week. If I'm not mistaken you can access it on the web. I will try to locate one and post it here! Later.

The CASBC directors will be meeting on April 14, and would like to discuss this issue. Has anyone uncovered any extra information on the construction at Chek Canyon?

Hey Peas, This is the only info I could really find about the construction: http://www.th.gov.bc.ca/BCHighways/highwayprojects/South_Coast.htm Unfortunetly there is no real specific information there. B.
