There's all this talk about a RC woman calander bit. Let's say it's a go and the proceeds go to charity. So I'm curious fellow climbing ladies....would you summit photos and why or why not.

Being a bit shy and sketched out about my face and body being on display, I would be very hesitant to submit, although it is quite tempting to be able to say that I posed for a calender. Guess I fear the comments that might arise on this website as a result. Don't think my boyfriend would dig it either. Also, I'd love to run for some sort of political office some day, and suspect it would ruin my chances. Unfortunately and fortunately I have few good pics of me climbing. And yet perhaps...

I think that we should make a calender not w/ our crag pics, but with the ones that show how we really look after a few days in the back country...ideally first thing in the morning. For that I'd donate a pic. I'm not against the idea, but when someone comes right out and says they want a copy for the bathroom, it does kinda give me the willies. I'm psyched for women that climb. It's great that climbing makes people have such lovely hard bodies too...Celebrate yourself and all that good stuff. If you think that guys are really going to be wacking off to your pic though, do you start to feel a little bit strange about it?

I'd do it. I may quote Lao Tzu, but if people think I am interesting/pretty enough to pose for something, it's a nice ego boost, don't you think? But then, again, I'm one of those women that will admit to secretly liking the cat calls, etc. I drew the line when I got an unsolicited email from a porn guy looking to send me down to LA, buy me a warddrobe and pay me to pose on his 'girls next door site.' Uh huh. Edit: I thought about this again: I would find myself insulted if I wasn't invited to be on it. Which makes this also a popularity contest or woman rating system, which is why I am NOT so sure this is a good idea, and why I never got excited about the original post. One of the worst memories I have is of my very first frat party when some guy friends decided to rate us all on a scale of 1-10. I refused to hear what they gave me. Weeks later, my roommate told me in an argument because I got a full two points more than her. Number chaser. Hah. I felt bad about that, and still think objectifying like that is gnarly. GNAR-LEEEEE.

Some people will harp on the opportunity to be aholes.

It's subjective and with only 12 months, that's not a lot of people and it would become a site popularity contest. Hurt feelings aren't good. I'm still gonna save myself for StoneNudes tho  .

i'm with beth. i'd rather do stone nudes or something. though, the chances of that are also unlikely. personally, i think the idea of a women's rc.com calendar is cheesy. if there needs to be a rc.com calendar, then it should include climbers of both genders from all over the place. though, if there's talk of doing a male calendar, i volunteer to be a judge. *snicker* (yeah, i'm a perv - what of it .. hehee)

I think that Iamthewallress' comment about the "backcountry look" is a good one. Especially if we make it scratch 'n sniff. Mmmm. -Kate.

this would be a popularity contest if some women were asked to pose for this calendar. if this was done as a photo contest and best climbing pictures were chosen, then maybe not.

I don’t think anyone should be asked to pose. There are so many very attractive, strong women on this site who are not so mainstream and they do have what it takes to sell this calendar. Should they be eliminated just because they’re quiet? If this thing flys, my suggestion is to have an open call. Send out a broadcast PM to everyone (if possible) and paste a notice on the front page of the site advising everyone that photos are being accepted from interested models for the 2005 rc.com women’s and men’s calendars. Yes, I said men’s! I would love to see a men’s calendar too! Why not do both? Not sure how the judging would go but perhaps you could let the members of the site be the judge. Maybe a separate link can be created, allowing users to vote on the pictures submitted, allowing only 1 vote per member. Top 12 men and top 12 women win. Maybe I’m so against the “invitation to pose idea” because I’m one of those people who would really like to participate in this. I’m a loudmouth on the site but I wouldn’t say I’m in the “in crowd.” I’m already being photographed for another endeavor up in Ouray this weekend and I know some of those photos will be worthy of this. But if it’s done by invite, I think individuals like myself that may have something to offer will be overlooked.

I agree. Just send in a phot that you think could work. Let a team on independent (randomly selected????) volunteers rate the photos and pick the top photos. Simple and easy.

I think we should do a parody on stone nudes and have a bunch of hairy male climbers with wigs posing in beautiful scenery! see: http://www.rockclimbing.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=49219

There seems to be some confusion about the purpose of said calendar. So once and for all, are we talking RC.com women nude? RC.com women in beautiful scenery? RC.com women pulling off 5.12 moves? RC.com women in artistically beautiful photos? I think people's responses to whether or not they'd submit a picture depend pretty heavily on this being defined. :? Assuming it's a matter of beautiful pictures that happen to feature RC.com women, then sure - count me in.
