Has anyone skiied Shasta yet this year? Heard there was good corn snow as of a few weeks ago, but i'm wondering if the recent temps out there have turned it all to mush. Also looking for any beta about best strategies - in a loooong day or with a camp? Thinking about climbing up the Casaval and skiing down the West Face. Thanks, andrew

Andrew, I'm only 1 hr from Shast, let me know if you need a partner. Not sure if I'm strong enough for a one day climb/descent though... It's been real sunny and warm here for a while, but can't coment on current conditions. I'm thinkin May, See ya!

Standard springtime descents on the big dustpile are: Hotlam-Bolam, Wintun ridge, and avalanche gulch (with a short downclimb thru the redbands). Also, the Cascade gulch run off shastina is pretty good. Av gulch is such a traffic jam nightmare these days, though, that I can't see it being enjoyable outside of winter descents though. parting: The Casaval is mostly skiiable if you're very solid.
