My gym changes their bouldering problems on a continuous basis. New ones are put up and old ones taken down on a weekly basis. As for actual routes, it takes them a bit more time. Usually every couple of months they will take out section and replace them.

Seems like they wait for someone to complain. YELL at the LAZY morons! You should see a new route the next time you return.

At Exposure of Houston, TX they change routes on a continuous basis. Every week there are completely new ones up and old ones being changed/coming down. You should get on those guys about those routes! If they're not doing their part, make sure to update the routes database as to this problem. You may even want to tell them their neglect is posted in our database...this may provide some more motivation for them.

Allright, when I was setting routes at Vertical Endeavors I would be putting up at least 5 new routes a month, myself. I despise gyms that keep the same routes up longer than like 3 months. Upper Limits here in Bloomington rarely seems to change their routes. And it's buggin. The holds are nasty. The routes are nasty. It's pathetic. I volunteered to set routes for them, but they wanted me to take a class and PAY THEM $75. I don't need a freaking class. Morons. Anyways... If I ever have a gym, you had better believe the routes will get changed up quite often. There is nothing I hate more than nasty holds on old routes. Variety draws people in. No one wants to climb the same 5.10 for 6 months. NO ONE.

take a class and pay THEM to set routes??!?!?!!? That's one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. The gym I usually go to here in CO, Paradise, changes routes every few weeks. Very nice.

Our gym has 5 different pillars that they break down into 8 sections. These all have routes on them, some toprope, some lead only, some both. We have I believe a 120 footlong bouldering wall, and t hen the bouldering cave. The bouldering wall is broken into 4 different sections, then the cave in 1 section. So, that is a total of like 12 sections. 12 sections, and 1 to 2 sectiosn changed per week. Our routes normally stay up about 8 weeks. For example, our lead only routes are about 5 weeks old now, but the toprope only routes are 2 weeks old. I climb at BI though, which is a large gym. The gym I go to (Upper Limits in St. Louis) just had a tourney recently in January, and now they are taking down the problems, and routes they had for it, plus some that were made before hand. I don't know how many gyms do this, but if someone performs like an incredible feat or traverses an incredible route at the gym, they get to label it, name, and give it a grade. I think I've seen a lot of these in videos, but I haven't been to many other gyms to actually see this. After awhile, though, if the route or problem becomes unpopular or overdone, then they come in and change the holds. I would imagine that all gyms would have to change their holds some time, because the "usuals" will get bored really fast doing the same thing over and over again, you know? Though some routes would have to remain classics, just because theyre that 1337

They usually change it every month....or if its really bad its taken down that day or the next...lol.It really depends on how many people work the route. The more people that work it, the longer it stays up.

I climb at The Rockhouse in Richmond BC, and they are usually pretty good with the routes. At The Rockhouse they try not to keep routes up for more than a month or so, otherwise they start to get boring and they loose their effect. I think that a month is almost perfect, that way you can struggle with the climb for a week (maybe two) or so and then by a months time you can show off your skills to your friends by doing it smoothly. It's good when they change the routes every few weeks, Hardrock are always changing, but it is really annoying when you've been working on a climb for a week or two, only to have it taken down the next time you come. And you always seem to be ready to climb it clean when they take it down. BAH!!

at the gym i go to, they have 3 or 4 really good route setters, and they slowly move through the gym, changing the routes every 1 two 2 weeks.

the gym that i go to is kinda small so almost everyweek the routesetters set up new ones...the people in the gym complain when they notice that the routes are the same as the week before.. so i guess were pretty fortunate to have hard-working routesetters...

most of the guys who work at my gym are very partial to bouldering. so, even though its not a bouldering pit, most of the good stuff in the gym is the bouldering problems. they change them about every month. they other routes though, they wait a pretty long time. i don't touch ropes though so i wouldn't know. lol
