I'm looking for a harness that combines minimal weight, packability and I can take a whipper and do the odd short hanging belay in. I own a full on trad harness but I want something between an adventure racing harness and a trad harness for fast back country, car to car climbs.

Any suggestions?

I love my petzl corax. Not the lightest, but if you're gonna do a hanging belay, I wouldn't torture myself with somehing with less padding. It packs down pretty small, but the gear loops are stiff, so that might bother you packing. I like them though. It is good to walk in, I just leave it on for walkoffs, no riding up or chafing, etc.

as far as packability, weight, and price - i take the black diamond alpine bod (the one with the fleece padding). i don't think i'd want to do a haning belay cause the leg loops aren't that comfortable, but it will hold you in a fall.

What about the Yates 8000m

The odd hanging belay will be rare and I have a belay seat that packs down to the size of a tennis ball.

I second the BD alpine Bod, not comfy but small and light.

I Own the Bod, With the padding, I deffinatly wouldnt wanna take any falls in it, or do a hanging belay, You might want to just cough up some money and get a good harness that you are going to like..

Petzl Hirundo. It is the lightest harness Petzl makes. I have one and I love it.

I also recommend the Petzl Sama. It is 5 ounces heavier than the hirundo, but has a little bit more padding.

Cheers
