is anyone in the USCCA/JCCA or any other junior climbing assotiation? if so do your perents drive you there and then complain cuz they are bored? mine left the competition last time. they were there for a half hour then they came back and made us leave before the awards. do your parents do this too?

The comps I've been to I have not enjoyed at all. In fact, they enjoyed it more then I did. To answer your question, my parents don't do that.

That sucks, I'm sorry to hear that. Have you tried sitting down with them and telling them what climbing means to you, and that you were embarrassed about having to leave when you won first place? I'm not saying it will change anything, but at the least they will begin to respect you as an adult for adressing them in a respectful manner.

Tell your parents that it's not selfish to stay for awards, it's respectful. Those who leave before receiving their awards are disrespecting the event organizers and the other competitors who put so much effort into the competiton. In ski racing, everyone gets mad when the winners do not stay for awards. [ This Message was edited by: jhwnewengland on 2002-06-02 11:50 ]

I've never had that happen... but my mom's a climber through and through, so she usually wants to stay the whole thing to the end. Sometimes she ducks out to get a coffee and what not, but if she agreed to take me to the comp then she has the courtesy to fulfil her obligations under her assumed position as driver and stay for the whole thing. Getting a ride is a favor that deserves appreciation, but not if it's done like that. I wasn't there, but that sound really childish of your parents (I could be wrong but...). Would you drive someone to a movie as a nice gesture, and then ask them to leave before it ended because you were getting bored? That wouldn't be a kind gesture anymore: it would just be selfish. I'm not calling down your parents or anything, I mean I don't know them, but that's how I feel for how I understand the situation. Parents are people too, and obviously not perfect. Oh yeah! Congrats on placing! [ This Message was edited by: kriso9tails on 2002-06-03 21:17 ]

i agree, its rude. me and vaness placed 2nd and 3rd at regionals and they wanted to leave. we convinced them to stay but they complained the whole way home. but at least next year we could have our owne car and be able to drive alone maybe.
