I have been searching for the "perfect" bag and helmet for years and continue to be left wanting something different. I have a synthetic and a down mummy and I like the bags well enough but I find that the more time I spend in them the more confined I feel. I am looking for a lightweight & roomy 20-30 degree sythetic bag that is not a mummy, any ideas?
Also, I have been using Petzl's Ecrin-Roc helmet for years and I hate the way it sits on my head, I know that they are great helmets and very protective but I really do not care for them. I have been looking into the Joe Brown helmet but nobody carries them in stock so I cannot check fit. Any recommendations regarding the Joe Brown?

If you feel confined in your bags, check out the stretch bags by Sierra Designs as well as the "big-boy" bags by the likes of TNF. I'm also pretty sure Western Mountaineering and Feathered Friends make bags for big guys. Keep in mind that you will lose warmth by getting a roomier bag. You will also find that the ultralight bags will never be roomy.
I would not shy away from mummy bags...just because the hood is there, doesn't mean you have to use it...;)

I have the Elderid Ultralight helmet. It fits great and is easily adjustable. The only problem is that it has a high profile, so it might be difficult to fit under a hood.

I have a Cassin Astral helmet. It's not as high profile as some others, and the fit around your head is a clicker- you turn a dial and it gets incrementally smaller or bigger. I love that feature- I can get it perfect with or without hat, so that my chin strap doesn't have to be cranked down.
As for sleeping bags, sorry, I like my mummy.

many of mountain hardwares bags are expandable so you can have more room.
then when you get chilly and deciede you willing to feel a little more claustrophobic for increased warmth you can zip them down and 'unexpand' them.
A+ products if you ask me.

moonshine sleeping bag or some name similar to it have sleepingbag that stretch. so, you can sleep in petal postiions, or do yoga in it. it's lightweight, and extreamply warm. my mountian hardwear winter sleeping bag got stolen (still searching for it) and i'm tempted to get the moonshine. it might be moonlight? some name related to it.
anybody know?

ANd the Stretchy bags are the SD line, but i think that patent may have expired so others may be doing it too.
The most important thing to do is get yourself into a bag, alot of them. I dont fit in most because i have wider shoulders and end up squished. If you dont try out the bag before you buy it, its likely youll be miserable when its not convenient to find that out finally.

seriously guys but this thread just dosen't sound right :twisted: If you need a helmet to go with your sleeping bag I would sugest getting an extra large double wide bag and going with a helmet that sports leg loops 8^)

For the bag, I would recommend looking into the Big Agnes line, They are extremely warm and roomy. As for the helmet I have the Hugh Banner "El Cap". It has a low profile and sits on the head real nice. It is of course Kevlar and has two vent holes on either side and can hold a head lamp easily. The chin strap is even padded for your sleeping pleasure! Good luck with your search
