Yeah I'm just wondering if anyone 's got some info on the Governor Stable comp that's coming up in PA. I've never pulled there so I was wondering what the problems are like. . .

Good question! The rock is triassic diabase. It has incredble friction and sports generally technical problems on slopers and small edges with challenging mantles. The boulders are scattered along a south-facing hillside above a small stream and wetland in a forgotten piece of woods in a residential area. There will be over 200 problems in the competition ranging from very easy to project. All of these problems are within a 15 minute walk of each other.

The Competition is scheduled for March 19, 2005. Registration is limited.

Registration and more information can be found at paclimbers.org

A nice gallery of images I took can be seen on my website: Karns Quality Website

The property is open to climbing via a lease and insurance agreement managed by the Pennsylvania Alliance of Climbers. Climbing is permitted only to members who have waivers on file. A one year membership is included in the comp entry. There are some other details; check the website for the scoop.

Hope to see you there!!

This thread definately belongs in bouldering!! The point of this event is to climb on some incredible boulders for the sake of access. The competition is simply a method to acheive that goal.

If you fly in, the airport is really close to the boulders, and I'm sure something could can be arranged with local people.

Depending on when you plan on getting in and leaving, I can give you rides to and from the boulders. PM me.

I can't believe that this thread isn't buldging with posts and spray.
For those of you who have not had the opportunity to visit GS before, allow me to stir the kettle.
The stone at Governor Stables is as good as rock gets :!: and the PAC does an excelent job of hosting this event.
If you enjoy bouldering then you'll be in love with GS & as hard as it is to have all you out of towners come and hand our asses to us, the climbing is just so good that you want to share it with the world.
So if hunderds and hunderds of boulder problems consolodated into a few acers sounds good to you.... well... enough said.

Thats my two cents

The bouldering at GS is awesome. Not only that, but the atmosphere during the comp is pretty cool too. In no way does it feel competitive, everybody is helping everybody, spewing beta, etc. The dinner, prizes, and a movie after the comp is also a lot of fun. For the price to enter, you really do get your moneys worth (prizes, goody bags, dinner, access to GS, and new friends).

So, don't miss out on some of the best bouldering in PA.
