I'm looking at purchasing the black diamond Sphynx Pack. I was wondering how everyone thought of the quality of these packs and or if there is a different pack you prefer. Thanks, Kenny

Bought it a few weeks ago, seems pretty good. Go for the 45L size, the 35L isn't exceptionally spacious. The sternum may come off, (can be easily be put back on), especially if you have boobs or serious chest muscles. It gets somewhat annoying.

i don't know the sphynx, but the shadow pack has the same buckle issue. i liked the basic pack so much that i got it anyhow and modded the buckles. i tossed the orignial equipment ones and had regular ones sewn to the pack with very short webbing. it works better now than any pack i've had. so i wouldn't let the B.S. buckles be the deciding factor unless there's something else you like as much.

i got this pack around xmas time, and i got the 35L pack and its pretty nice fits all of my trad gear and a bunch of other stuff and my rope, which is nice, havent had any problems with the bag, main reason i got it was because of it being water resistant.

i drew sketches of what i wanted, and had it done by adventure sewing and design in boulder ... www.adventuresewingdesign.com basically, I bought regular fastex-type buckles that worked more easily with gloves, and had the female side sewn tight with a short piece of webbing, right in place of the original female buckle. the result is that it stays in place, but isn't rigidly mounted against the pack like the BD design. It's actually easier to buckle with one hand than any other pack I've tried. It went from the worst buckle design that i've used to the best.
