You guys should see the routes Neil Gresham & Mike Robinson have put up around Europe! Also in Vietnam Neil & Time Emmet have done some spectacular stuff. I think Mike actually was one of the first person to do very hard DWS climbs. There is also the Cornwell DWS fest!

Here's the link: http://www.mensjournal.com/...imb_freeSoloing.html Great article. Not to take anything away from Child, but my guess is that it's not the writing that's so great. It's the editing that Men's Journal can bring to bear. My wife, who is a professional editor, looks at Alpinist, the best we've got, and just cringes at how poorly edited it is. Steve Roper even makes fun of the copy editing in letters to the editor. The circulation for MJ can support editing that Alpinist cannot. Pity. Best, Kim

Not to take away from the previous point about the editing for Alpinist, but Greg Child deserves mention as one of the very best climbing writers. He's won awards at many climbing festivals and is committed to bringing our esoteric sport into the consciousness of the sporting community in general. For this I am greateful. I've deep water soloed ever since I first cliff-jumped as a kid at summer camp - climbing back up was just a rewarding as jumping off. Other kids thought I was nuts but I loved it. Still do! Great article, inspiring content. Thanks for the link!

It's a fun read. However, I don't think the article stresses enough how messed up you can get falling from 120 feet. The water will not only feel like concrete but will also have close to its affects. (okay thats an exaguration but it has got to be pretty bad)

Not having my physics texts handy I still think you aren't far off in saying that the water will be similar to hitting concrete from that height, so long as you hit it poorly. If I remember correctly, for diving purposes you generally want a significant percentage, maybe 30 percent of the height of the dive for the depth of the water to avoid hitting the bottom. Does anyone know the figure more exactly?

*It's a fun read. However, I don't think the article stresses enough how messed up you can get falling from 120 feet.* you're right, but that particular climb isn't 120' high - 60' of it is roughly horizontal.
