I would like to see what crazy stuff people have thought of (or did) climb / rappel from?

I got locked on the roof of our office building by accident one day. Me and my colleague (Dressed in suit and tie) had to rig an abseil down the side. The only possible anchor point was from an antennae just by the main gate....and it was the day that "the clients" came for a presentation. I do not work there anymore :)

I also rappeled of a dam wall at 1:00am (Pitch dark!!!!)

There's not much practical use for my climbing, mostly I do it for fun. I've got all sorts of routes up various walls in my school (Just unlocked one in the small gym today in fact), tons of routes up my house, etc. but not many stories of using my skills for things like yours. I've thought about slacklining above the gym floor (the track circles the gym on a second story) for a talent show, but it's not really something I would do.

There have been a few similar threads, asking for non-rock related climbing. Might want to do a forum search if you're interested in the stories. ;) Great stuff! :D

I try to climb everything I can. Here at Clarkson university, I've been on 12 or so buildings. All from the outside, no stairs, ropes, or ladders. Other recent exploits would be a set of floor to ceiling windows in our campus center that my friend and I raced up. A large granite block clock tower in Hartford, CT (constitution plazza).

I guess up here in the north country we get bored easily.

Last weekend I tried climbing the stonework in front of my condo. Figured I could just grab the corner and lieback...too chossy, though...couldn't get a good purchase wearing my Tevas.

--motor inn traverse--

it began after a day of climbing in the south fork valley...
dry tooling, any feet except the floor....

start on inside bathroom door jam, hook the towel rack, over to the shower, around the shower back to the door hinge (bomber), to the outside of the bathroom door jam, to the closet door jam (feet still on hinges), to the main entrance/exit door jam, to the neighbooring room door jam (and hinges), finish with one foot on door knob.
i haven't been in another room that presented such a classic line..

Well, for lack of any real rock close by and weather too bad to travel and find some, I have to improvise here.

I climbed the first story of my dorm a couple times. One route, called "Hombre en la ventana" (named after the Dali mainting "Mujer en la ventana" follows a jamcrack formed by two colums with a small roof (one day I'll post a pic), traverses some easy railings and enters a window in the library (imagine the stares).

I've got another easy chimney problem, but didn't top it out cuz the top was really wet and slippery, so it's yet to be named. Another project starts with the column hand-crack and follows a juggy traverse with no feet, but it looks kinda bad to fall, so I'm reluctant to commit.

There's a rock wall with some bolts that we climb somtimes, but most of it is too easy.

In a park near here is an old convent. There's a corner that was mildly protectable and we scaled that and got to the top of a belltower. Great view of the whole city. There are some harder routes I want to try, but not willing to do them without a TR since there's no pro. The route we did involved a bellyflop onto some stucco roof. The stuff almost broke under me and scratched me pretty bad. All fun though especially since I didn't deck.

There's all kinds of cathedrals and old buildings here that I really want to climb. I'm only worried about 1) falling, 2) getting down and 3) getting arrested (of course, option 1 would take care of 2 and 3 by getting me down and dead people don't have to worry about cops). Europe is buildering heaven, but it's hard to find somewhere secluded enough to do it right.

I lie-backed part way up the side of a thrift store. At the time I didnt have my shoes handy so I did it barefoot and consequently fell. I plan on going back to conquer the beast.

i got locked out of my house and climbed up to a second story window....opened the LOCKED window with a ruler.

isn't it scary that a person with a basic understanding of climbing, decent upper body strength and a ruler could break into your house?

When I was in Hueco Tanks over New Years, I climbed one of the bathroom buildings right up to the roof. It was so cobbley I couldn't resist. I call it, "The Bathroom Problem, V0"

The occasional tree, of course...
Ice would be nice... (but I'm in AZ, where rock abounds)
Once in a while I try to boulder artificial landscape walls... (some of them make pretty decent traversing problems)
As soon as I can afford that 4" lift on my Jeep I'll be able to climb in and out of my ride!
Plastic... (every time I go to the climbing gym)
Concrete... (I like to climb up the underside of the steps at my apartment complex.)

Highway Sign Structures...
Part of my job is to inspect bridges and sign structures... so I've climbed them, inspected them, and rapped off. (There's a picture in my photos)
