bambi - youve gotta get your terms down soloing is a general term, theres roped soloing and free soloing roped soloing uses some sort of self belay method and involves lot of rigging and gear. it can be on aid or a free climb. free soloing is climbing with no safety gear and implies free climbing, but the term is weird since you can solo free climb with gear and safety equipment. anyway, specify what you want and ppl could probably dig up some pictures. you could also try google imaging what you want. -ws

The coolest Free soloing pic that I've ever seen is this Five Ten ad that was in Rock and Ice issue 131 March 2004. Page 19. Shows Dean Potter free soloing on the 30th pitch of Freerider (5.12d) on El Cap. It's pretty fierce. I'll see if I can find a copy on their web site.g

Anybody have links to any of these pictures/ads? The Five.Ten ad that I mentioned isn't online, or at least isn't anywhere I could find it.

I'm not sure whether or not to believe all of these pictures. It is rediculously easy to photoshop a rope and gear out of a picture, especially if the person's harness is the same color as pants or hidden.

Someone already mentioned this but the best poster of soloing is a picture of Vern drinking a brew while climbing. Also previous guy, some things can be done with out the aid of photoshop...you conspierisisterizer, or something like that.

There's only 4 photos so far and just about all of them are well known. Gill - no explanation necessary. Huber - it's on video. Nate - he's a prof photographer, no reason to stake his reputation by cheating. Gullich - Separate Reality in 1986, perhaps the first 5.12a solo in the Valley.

The Verm photo was staged. If I remember correctly he was cabled to a bolt. Good shot though, hanging from a jug with one hand, a big ol' stein of beer in the other, free soloing in flip flops. RAD!

Ya the verm photo was staged but next time ya see it look close. Not only is he free solo with a brew he is in flip flops. I understand that he climbed the piece tied off with a draw straight to a bolt then pulle dthe slops out of his pockets and had the rope pulled away. Makes a sweet pic any way you count it
