Hey all,
I don't know if anyone out there is a big trail runner but If your free this Sunday checkout the seven sisters trail race out here in Amherst.
http://www.7sisterstrailrace.com/
It's a great run over the summits of a lot of the hills in the Holyoke range, amazing views.
Take Care,
-Eric

Re: Carabiner’s

I was affiliated with the construction of the gym, but I am not much of a climber and am not involved in the day-to-day management. Regarding the route-setting, there was certainly a drive to get the gym opened, and presumably the route-setting will become more varied over time.

As far as the “gestapo atmosphere”, hopefully that will settle out as well. Having seen both sides of the interaction at the gym, the attitude and behavior of some "expert" climbers is at least as unnerving to those of us who want to see the gym succeed.

to paraphrase Fever Pitch, "you've loved rumney for a long time, but has rumney ever loved you back?"

It's OK to enjoy climbing there, but it's not like I just insulted a family member. Chillax. Insulting the quarries, where the rock is hard and the grades honest, is no feather in any sport weenie's beanie.

One should avoid Cathedral completely; the place is so fragile that the rock seems to be cracking in places. Entire beast-sized flakes of rock rely on arbitrary forces, such as gravity, to remain attached to the cliff.

Rumney, QQ, Cathedral, Cannon - I love them all. For me it's simply a matter of what I'm in the mood for. Each has unique qualities as well as inherent flaws.

Me too, I love 'em all. But I love your mother the most. Well, maybe not the most, but at least the most often.

Not me, I'm a lover, not a hater. :P

Dude, I've got to get out climbing or I'm going to go insane. Sadly, it may already be too late.

Not this coming weekend, but the one after, I may have one free day. Anyone plan to be at the Gunks?

GO

Y'know, I'd have to say that from Gravity Rock gym, to purgatory, lookout, Tippling, CR, QQ, milford boulders, Lincoln Woods, BRG, RIRG, to TD's woodie and my attic wallie (which is a conmplete list of everywhere I've climbed), there hasn't been anything I've climbed that I haven't liked.

it's all climbing, it's all good.

Kathabiner, point taken. the wait for Carabiners to open was very long, years in fact. hopefully, it's potential will be realized and it'll enjoy success.
$18 is steep for a day pass, though, so you'd have to understand expectiations would be high.

Ambler, you're getting quite good at deleting belayers in photoshop! maybe i can give you some pics of me climbing and you can touch them up to actually make it look like I know what i'm doing ;)

I'm hoping to get to QQ today. If i get out of work late I may head to HP instead, but I hit HP twice last week, and to be quite honest, too much bouldering ends up hurting the other aspects of climbing for me

Heh. Now that I've learned the trick, it might be hard to stop...another fine way to waste time!

Just to be contrarian, I was trying to think of someplace I've climbed that was so crappy I should have stayed home. Only the ones with too much broken glass came to mind, like Rock Rimmon. Mostly it does seem to be true that even low-quality crags are high fun.

But then there's another category, of cliffs so cosmic you'd just as soon be there on the day the world ended. Anybody else think of those?

Ten day forecast is calling for 40% chance of rain on Saturday and 60% chance on Sunday. If my math is correct, that adds up to a 100% chance that I'll be pissed off. Might have to hit the granite cracks at BRG to prep for some Cathedral climbing nest month.

HP tonight.

I was reading through the Free Gunks thread when it occurred to me that I've never paid to climb at the Gunks. I'm not even sure who I should have paid. You just walk in, right? I got soaked for $5 to climb at Peterskill but that was because I had to pay to get in the lot.

Do you only pay at the main Trapps parking lot or are you supposed to seek out the fee collector? Now, I will admit to having been vaguely aware that other people had yearly passes for some unspecified reason. My theory though, has always been that if they really want my money, they'll come and ask me for it.
