Started in 1972 when I was fourteen. Quit for a few years and started up again about a year and a half ago. It sure is fun rediscoving all the classics with my daughter.

I started climbing before I could crawl, smatter of fact I skipped the crawling bit, I went straight for the mnatle ledge on the couch across the slabby cushions and then up the face to top out on my FFA of the sofa.
Then came the clothes line out in the back yard which I climbed before I was two. Next came all the trees in the neighbourhood.
My climbing triumph in primary school though was the flagpole in the parade ground.
Oh, umm, rope climbing, ah yes, well, I`ve been rope climbing for about 8 years now. Yup totally hooked on climbing.

I first tied in and climbed at 13 yrs on a wooden wall at camp my freshman year of highschool. I loved it, but due to a severe lack of funding, I went back to hiking and tree climbing for the next four years. My second chance to climb was just after I graduated at an outdoor adventure camp. There was a climbing tower that I raced up and down in all my spare time... but this also marked my first 'real rock' climb - a 5.7 on cliff near the Kern River, CA. Took me another year or so... I'd say I started seriously at 18 (though I didn't buy my first pair of new shoes until last week )
