Torn between 2 Crash pads==Bittersweet vs Revolution

Hi I was wondering if anyone can tell me from experience their satisfaction of either the Bittersweet pad (single) or the Revolution pad (formally known as Cordless) AK pad. All I've been hearing are good comments for both. Does anyone have constructive criticism on any of these crash pads to better help me decide which one to get?
Thanks

aside from the fact that i don't like revolutions style, i've got nothing factual to go on. I have a bittersweet double wide and am super happy with it. bittersweet hasn't always been a good name but their stuff these days is well made, durable, and at least in the double wide has cool features like a gear pocket and whatnot. if you haven't already i would recommend checking out the pagan crashpad. it is basically a metolious but cheaper. good luck man.

unless the bittersweets are actually better than they used to be... then they are thin and soft and will bottom out quickly.

I personally have a cordless pad and couldn’t be happier. Very plush, thick, lightweight padding that is easy to bring anywhere.

i've got the ak and the 12 guage(shipping error) and they are the nicest pads i've seen on the market. nice thick padding, comfy harness and the velcro closures are much better than the buckle systems that are on everyone elses pads. plus the people at revolution are some of the nicest people to work with. i would reccomend them to pretty much anyone.

Bittersweet has definitely upped the ante and are making their pads out of some of the highest quality material, but still keeping the price down. The double is a really nice pad. Check out their site and send them an email with any of your questions or concerns. These guys are pretty dedicated and I think you'll be pleased with their response.

I think you're choosing between the wrong pads. I'd recommend either the pad from pagan gear (mentioned above - sometimes available on Sierra Trading post for an added discount) or the Mad Pad (on sale now at REI for less than $100). You'll pay too much and get less with Revolution or Bittersweet.

Two crappy pads. You'll spend less in the short term, but those pads will wear much quicker than the Revolution or Bittersweet. Spend the money, go for quality.

obviously I disagree.

I have only second-hand experience with bittersweet and the results I've heard agree with the post above - you'll bottom out.

I owned a Cordless and I was happy with it but I've been just as happy with my Paragon pad and wish that I'd never spent the extra money early on (although there weren't lower priced pads on the market at the time).

I seriously doubt you were using a current bittersweet pad. Their stuff used to be crap. The new owners have gone to top quality material for their pads. Then again it is an opinion. The pagan pads use decent foam, but I have seen more duct tape patch jobs on those pads than any other pad.
Again my advice is to not go cheap.

and it isn't like if you get the bittersweet you are going expensive. the AK pad is 50" by 40"...thats 2000sq inches. the bittersweet is 48" by 84".... 4032sq inches. on revolutions website they are selling the AK for $165 ~uh .08 cents a sq inch? the bittersweet is listing for 189(free shipping on the site i checked) which is ~.04 cents per square inch. pagan gears pad is 104(with shipping) and is 36"by 52" or 1872 sq inches at ~.05 cents per sq inch(i included shipping on this cause i don't think you can get it anywhere but on the website and the website does not have free shipping. mad pad is $119(without shipping) at 24" by 36" or 864 sq inches at ~13 cents a sq inch. so bittersweet is cheapest by the square inch, when you keep it doubled it is as thick or thicker than any these pads and still has a larger landing area.
feel free to make fun of my math if it is wrong.

If you were gonna do the math that way, i'd think you'd do it by cubic inches of closed cell foam and cubic inches of open cell foam, not just surface area, if we did it by square inches, go buy a tarp, or maybe a sheet!

You're saying that the double wide open fully (48x84) which only is about 1.5 or 2 inches thick should be considered in the same way as the AK pad (50x40)? Wouldn't it be more fair to calculate the price per square inch considering the single wide or the double wide folded (48x42ish)?

Bittersweet-$189 48"X84"X2.5" 4032sq inches 4 cents per sq inch or 48"X42"X5" 2016sq inches

Pagan- $104 36"X52"X3" 1872sq inches 5 cents per sq inch

Revolution-$165 50"X40"X3.5" 2000sq inches 8 cents per sq inch

Mad Pad-$119 24"X36"X4.5" 864sq inches 13 cents per sq inch

Ok, Ok yeah some one should do the math on open cell and closed cell cost per cubic inch of each and then do a materials analysis to determine what is of better value.

Yeah ok who is doing that so what I know is bitter sweet totally had a bad wrap but they got new ownership and have been working on developing and improving teh product ever since. The Revolution is the cordless and they always had good stuff, personally I have a metolious pad that I have had for years.

The velcro closure system on the REvolution might be comffy when you get it but when you really need to jam your pack full of stuff like a small cooler for your beer it just doesn't work, the velcro become worn out and doesn't really hold too well after a while, that is unless all your expecting the velcro to is keep teh pad closed with nothing in it, I don't know who does that Bittersweet has the same buckles as metolious which are supposed to be indestructable, but I have seen one of them get pretty bent, but if that happens I am sure you could mail it too them and get a new buckle.

My thought is go bittersweet.

How about the Asana pads? Are they any good? With 3.5 inches of padding that bittersweet single wide and revolution AK how high of a fall can those pads take?

republiclimber,

sorry to point it out, but you are wrong about the mad pad. number one, they are more like 36 x 48 inches, and number two, for 200 bucks you can have two that velcro together like the bluewater sharma system and cover a 4x6 foot area. 24 square feet. plus, at 5 inches thick, they feel a hell of a lot better than anything around 3 inches. the straps are comfortable, the shell is durable, and the couch is so so. i have thrown my pads on some pretty sharp stuff and they have survived extremely well.
