So this is probably a pretty silly question, but if I wanted to hit Camp 4 (in July), do I have to make reservations, or can I just show up and find a spot? Will it be sick crowded (I've read it's the peak of the season there)?

from what i understand you only have to make reservations for the car camping sites and since camp 4 is a walk in campground you don't have too. i could be wrong though that happens time to time. If I am wrong i hope someone corrects me quickly since I will be in yosemite in 2 weeks.

Pull in to the lot, take food out of car and deposit it in bear locker, throw down sleeping bag, sleep. That's pretty much the procedure. You are unlikely to get hassled (have to pay) unless you set up a tent.

I was in the valley about 10 years ago and at that time you were unable to call ahead and make reservations for camp 4. I would still call ahead though, just in case. I would also suggest October as the best time to go

First come first served. Be there in the morning when they assign campsites or you might be sol.

Ya first thing means EARLY. If I remember the window opened at 7:00 and there was a line already :o Good place to start meeting partners too :!:

"Camp 4 Reservation" is an oxymoron. :) Colin

I agree with climbingnurse. But if you do dirtbag it, go somewhere out of the parking lot behind the camp. If your not hardcore, no reservations are needed, just get into line at 6:30 to get a site. You can get a site for up to a week at a time. Have a good time. |

You probably didn't notice, but you're responding to a thread from over two years ago. The Original Poster has probably not only been there, but can now give us all tips on the current process of getting a spot there! But welcome to the site, and be prepared for some flames! (some in good fun, some no doubt downright mean!) LOL
