Don't blame the Canadians (for once), blame the French: "We now make le grigri in le colors, and we are laughing all the way to le banc."

I don't know, sounds to me like this red grigri might be a good n  b early warning system. Until the grigri begins to turn silver, best keep your distance.

You're absolutely right. I take back everything bad I said about the French. It's another brilliant safety innovation from Petzl.

do you think this could be Petzl's way of trying to compete with the new Trango Cinch?

Yeah, because Petzl didn't already have an autolocking belay device. They changed the color, and voila, an autolocker!

I do like caughtinside's explanation. Brilliant.

I have to say that I am dissapointed with Petzl.

After inspecting pictures of the red gri gri online I would have to say that its not nearly as safe as the silver version. The dye used clearly weakens the structural integrity of the device.

sorry to break the hearts of those who have already purchased it...

Look closer and you will see little "diameter finder" dots next to the rope entry
if you can see the little red dots, the rope diameter is too small, the grigri may fail to engage
