I would look up Adam Fox at Fox Mountain Guides at Looking Glass rock. My brother and I did a class with him a few weeks ago and it was great. He's been knocking around your area for several years now and seems to have a pretty good handle on the area and the routes. His services were well worth the $ which was not overly priced as guides go. I think that he would be the quickest and safest way to get a handle on some of the great climbing in that area. Website is www.foxmountainguides.com, the guy does a great job and has quite a list of credentials to boot.

Good luck and get home safe.

Rumbling Bald, Looking Glass, best to check out the Carolina Climbing Coalition web site. Can't remember the URL but a google search will pick it up really fast

For the Summer I reccomend Ship Rock near Boone, or Hawksbill in linville Gorge not too far from Morganton. Both offer cool temps in the carolina heat. Use the new Harrison shull book "selected climbs in NC" for more info. Ship has some good trad routes at 5.7 but Hawksbill in general starts at round 5.10a or so. Moores wall is generally ok if it's below about 88 or so and not too humid. Moores has good routes starting at 5.5, although none can be top roped. Hawksbill in general can't be top roped either.
Good luck, climb safe

You must be going to fayetteville AKA fayette-nam . I can climb at the table rock area with you sometime.

I am stationed in Jacksonville, but from NC originally. I go climbing often, and would be more then happy to take you to a few spots with-in a days drive or so. Also willing to travel farther and camp. I'm non-deployable, so my schedule is wide open. I have all the gear to top rope, and a couple of draws for some sport. Let me know.

If you're deployed to Iraq then I am assuming you're either in the Marine Corps or the Army. Either way your closest and best bets are moores wall (trad/bouldering), pilot mountain (top-roping/some sport), and sauratown (mostly sport around 5.10 and up.) They are all about 2 1/2 hours from fayetteville and about 5 hours from Jacksonville. I'm deployed with the Marines right now and will be back this fall. Shoot me a pm if you want to climb or need to be shown around. My buddy and I climb almost every weekend and I have a full rack, draws, rope, etc.
