In reply to: Boldering? It is a joke? That kills the spirit of the mountaineering. Nothing is comparable to a climbing in a big wall or a great mountain. Boldering is a sport for enthusiastic of the shows. how can you look at it that way bouldering is completely mounteneriing even more so than sport... it takes extream strength and skill to be able to do it and i respect those who can do it well... i just don't see your logic there

The fact that bouldering is so close to the ground allows for other climbers to offer support and motivation (something that is hard to do when a guy is 10 pitches up). Another cool thing is that when a v10 boulderer sees a v3 boulderer sticking something that is obviously tough for their ability most of the time they will cheer them on regardless of the fact that they could flash the problem with their eyes closed. Plus your mom boulders. :D

the author of this thread is right...bouldering, excuse me...boldering is for weaklings and pansies. it has no correlation to real rock climbing. it only makes you weaker and more nimble minded about the sport...wait did i just call climbing a sport? that's my post for the year...

lets see you tell ron kauk, chris sharma, nate gold, or anyone who likes climbing in general that bouldering kills the sport. i myself like bouldering most of all. you stay in touch with the rock without ropes and harnesses. trying highball v6 boulder problems is just as scary as being on el cap tied in on a rope. so just to tell whoever started this ridiculous thread... if you think bouldering kills the sport, well my friend you arent a true climber.

In reply to: It is lousy that many Americans, maybe because they do not know the cultures around their country, may easily think that they can be read as single packages of people. It is as silly as if I would say that all Americans are drug consumers and that for such a reason, there is a war in my country. (If there is not demand, there is not market, right?) Not all Americans are drug consumers and ignorant, and not all Colombians are narco traffickers. Ok? I have known people from the United States of America as well as from Colombia, who is truly intelligent, respectful and well educated. People who understands that they are not the center of the world. My English is not be perfect, and does not have to be. But to avoid this problem, I welcome all of you to continue the chat in Spanish. I am sure you could check how good my Spanish is. Sorry, this thread was long dead and deserves to die again, but as long as slackman is keeping it on the frontpage... The original poster's response was just so good.... Well said, jaricaurte, well said...

Can we stop posting with posts asking other posters to no longer post? And don't even think about posting asking for people who post about no longer posting about not posting to no longer post. That would just be dumb.

Dammit bvb! I hate having my post be the last one on the page and then having someone reply right away leaving mine largely unread! To recap:

Perhaps there is a middle ground--a compromise to be found here. Maybe we can all agree that bouldering is indeed a joke--a cruel, cruel joke played on weak climbers? Curt

I thought all climbing is kind of a joke. It is the hardest way to go nowhere. Kind of silly when you think about it. But I'll take climbing over just about any other activity. So, I guess it just doesn't matter if its a joke or not.

i totally think bouldering sucks!! especially all that really fun, social, good friend making, technique improving crap you have to deal with. and it makes your so damn strong that it totally spoils all those otherwise really scary moves you do topping out on summits --which is the whole point of any climbing, right?
