First: Welcome to climbing and RC.com Second: You should get your own harness so you don't have to rent one at the gym. Money you save will buy you some gear later on. Third: You live in one of best climbing areas in Canada, for sure it is better then Southern Ontario Fourth: Remember to have fun Good Day

You got good advice from Tradrenn (get your own basic gear, have fun). I would add that the best thing you can do early on is the make yourself an open vessel -- listen and learn from others who've been doing it a while. Read a lot. Look for John Long's great "How to Rock Climb" books. Also, read a lot of posts on this site and learn how the search function works before asking questions that have already been asked, or people will dump on you big time. Hook up with the better climbers at your gym; watch how they do things; ask them questions; offer to belay them. If you don't read anything else on this web site, read this excellent post/thread by tenn_dawg: http://www.rockclimbing.com/....php?p=372044#372044 That pretty well says it all. Like tradrenn said -- have fun! JL

Hi mark I'm sorry about your country's recent poor judgement and craven capitulation to a perverted agenda. Climb On :!:

Pink -- the game doesn't count unless it's played on the appropriate field. Please, take it elsewhere. I'm sure a friendly mod. will show our newest friend the door?

But there are appropriate places and forums on this website to discuss politics, and this -- a "welcoming" thread -- isn't one of them. Ed

Welcome to climbing. Hope you are prepaired to fork over your hard earned cash for the gear you will soon be drooling over, the road trips you will experience and the fun you'll have around the campfires! BTW ... pay no attention to the man behind the curtain  PTC has a way of expanding his views beyound the playground set aside for such topics. Alan
