I am not sure if this was a climbing or a hiking accident but if you found more info just post it, thanks. Climber killed on Three-Fingered Jack July 25, 2005 ALBANY, Ore. (AP) — An Oregon State University student died while climbing on Three-Fingered Jack mountain in Linn County, authorities said. Kathryn Michele Tinnesand, 23, of Hillsboro was with a group who had finished the climb at around 2 p.m. Saturday. Tinnesand was returning down a trail when she fell about 700 feet from a ledge, Linn County Sheriff Tim Mueller said. Tinnesand was climbing with four other hikers on the South Ridge trail of the popular crags, just north of the Santiam Pass at the eastern edge of the county, Mueller said. A climber from another group found Tinnesand dead about an hour after the fall. Search and rescue crews from Linn and Jefferson counties brought Tinnesand out of the Mount Jefferson Wilderness Area late Saturday night, Mueller said.

The article says "returning down a trail", so I assume it happened while hiking the descent from the climb.

700 feet. That would suck so bad. That's way to long of a fall to be thinking about what's gonna happen to you. :( My thoughts to the family and friends. Monk.

There is a final report posted on our website: http://www.i-world.net/.../2005-07-23-3fj.html Katie, the climber who fell, was descending the ridge of the mountain but was still on the section which is very much 4th class. The group was climbing and not hiking. She was a very competent climber and a fairly new member of one of the local mountain rescue teams. She will be missed by many.

Most accidents happen on the decent, ppl let thier guard down. Hardcore feels sad for her family. Remember fellow climbers going up is only half way. Climb Hard Climb Safe
