Hi, I'll be in AK over the weekend and would love to try the rock while there ( Kenai Peninsula, Anchorage). If any one can help me out here, I would appreciate it greatly.

On highway 1 south out of Anchorage there is decent sport climbing and toproping. I haven't been up there since 1998, so I'm sure someone local will have more info. You can get the local guide at REI or the gym.

Hey Yadeb-

your major challenge right now will be the weather...but if it's nice, you should try to get out to Hatcher's Pass. The seward highway climbing is OK if you have nothing else to do or don't have the time to drive to Hatcher's, but if you do have the time and the weather is OK, hatcher's is leaps and bounds better. Send coldclimb a PM and let him know when you will be in town...if I'm available, we can hook up, but he is always ready to climb and knows the area very well.

Locals may or may not know it as Highway 1. It's usually referred to as the New Seward Highway or even just the Seward Highway. Although this risks confusion with the OLD Seward Highway... ;)
