I went to college in Ohio and I'll be coming back next week. I wanted to link up with some friends from Dayton at Springfield "Gorge", the site north of I-70 along the river, below the Freemason property. I don't see the area listed here. Does anyone know if it's closed or open to the public. 8 years ago, the area used to go back and forth from open to closed, usually closing after some accident. Last time I was there some idiot free soloed over my partner, stepping through our ropes (top-roped), so I would be surprised if this kind of idiocy led to accidents that shut climbers out completely. Any word would be greatly appreciated.

I think it was closed after Homer fell while trying to jump it on Bart's skateboard.

Look on the OCA page.. i think there is some information that might be of some use.. the gorge that you specifically mention is verboten until some new people come along at the Masons camp. Otherwise.. yeah.. it is closed.. indefinetly.

Springfield Gorge is still closed but the other side of the river ...The Dark Side still has public access. Both sides of the river are still occasionally climbed. A few of the classic routes like O-Well are even relatively dirt free.

Fishermen still frequent the area. They usually park on the North bound side of 68.

The place is so trashed compared to what it once was

Dude, since no one else is showing you any love, I thought this was funny as shit, and I was actually pretty pissed that you posted it before I got a chance to.
