i'm wanting to buy a new 70m rope for cheap and the best deals i've found so far are: 70m edelweiss laser 9.6 dry for $160 or 70m edelweiss on-sight 9.9m bi-pattern dry for $155 anyone out there with good reasons to go with one vs the other? i've been using an edelweiss axis for the last 2 years and like their ropes, so i'm not seeking opinions on edelweiss ropes in general just specific reasons for one rope vs the other here are the specs: laser Diameter -9,6 mm Weight -61 g/m Elongation 5-80 kg -7,5 % Impact force ~ 8,00 kN Falls / Average - 6 on-sight Diameter -9,9 mm Weight -64 g/m Elongation 5-80 kg -7 % Impact force ~ 8,40 kN Falls / Average -8 thanks for the help - if anyone knows of a better deal that info is welcome also

I have both, and work at a store that sells edelwiess ropes. It really depends on what you need this rope for? the onsight will last you longer and is more of a workhorse rope than the laser, but the laser is more of an onsite and/or hard redpoint rope where every ounce counts and for that its awesome.

what will you use it for??? if you need something durable, go with onsight. if you want an edge on that new proj, get the laser. and thats a really good price for a 70m edelweiss. i wish they were as cheap here.

In reply to: here are the specs: laser Diameter -9,6 mm Weight -61 g/m Elongation 5-80 kg -7,5 % Impact force ~ 8,00 kN Falls / Average - 6 on-sight Diameter -9,9 mm Weight -64 g/m Elongation 5-80 kg -7 % Impact force ~ 8,40 kN Falls / Average -8 With this weight difference in the two ropes, I don't really think there'd be much of a difference when trying an onsight or hard redpoint. If you used a full 35m of the 70m length of rope on a sport route, you are only going to experience a difference of 0.231 lbs between the ropes when you reach the top of the route. This is not going to be anything you can easily physically notice, so if there is a feeling of difference in weight, it's most likely entirely mental.
