Dr. Piton believes it to be a Very Good Thing that you climb a route that is longer and harder than anything that you have yet done, and that you climb it solo. The fact that you have announced it here for the whole world to see should make it that much more difficult to back out, and shows that you may have more balls than brains. [Note: This character attribute can be of tremendous benefit to solo wall climbers] Send it, dude, or be prepared to face your peers in failure.

Don't forget to link 5 and 6! There is no bolted anchor for the last pitch, and soloing on a gear anchor wouldn't be pleasant on your first outing. Be sure to bring a camera on the roof pitch and take a shot up into the roof corner, and then one straight down past your feet when your dangling at the lip! Spiff

First off, Pete, thanks for the 2:1 beta. Hauling is no longer a chore!!! Second, I'm still not a soloist yet, aid anyway. I managed to scrounge up a partner last minute and shared the ledge. Next time.

What route are we talking about here? It appears, although I apologize if I am wrong, that someone made a big announcement. These announcements are a form of accountability. Then, that person deleted their announcement? Hey, its ok to not do what you announced you would do, but lets keep the integrity of the method, or it won't work at all!! holly

Hottieclimber is 100% correct. The purpose of such a post is to make yourself accountable to your peers. Deleting such a post is not cool. If you fail, then you must expect to face a bit criticism from your peers, but you will also receive our love and support. Will the perpetrator of the above deletion please 'fess up? Perhaps this was an accidental deletion, for the purposes of clarity...?

OK, now it's time to bring out the old NJ/NYC attitude I have. First of all I deleted the post. It was MY post. I didn't fail, I just didn't "solo aid" it. In fact we did most of the route "Free". Personaly, I'd rather "Free Solo" it when I am ready. When I got home, I posted what happened. After a day or two, I figured why keep the posting up? So I deleted it. Hey guys, let's get over it. The route was done days ago. Why follow up on old news?? I mean, are you guys loosing sleep over this????? Melon Pete, you've helped me out so many times. It sadens me to reply this way. Melonman, Pete wrote; The fact that you have announced it here for the whole world to see should make it that much more difficult to back out, and shows that you may have more balls than brains. [Note: This character attribute can be of tremendous benefit to solo wall climbers] This can also be a lot of weight to carry, and added pressure one may not need. I don't think it helped me out any! It's O.K. that you didn't solo it or aid it, I was happy for you when I saw that you had found a partner! But I agree that you didn't need to delete your "announcement", I was also very glad to see that you had at least accomplished your goal of "the ascent" no matter how. I did not. And when I posted the fact that I had failed and didn't have it in me to try for awhile, I recived overwhelming support and a bit of deserved good natured ribbing. We haven't all made this go away as it should not, good on you for having a great day of climbing. You can't hide from us we're your friends But no need to stress on it anymore, Jeff [ This Message was edited by: krustyklimber on 2002-08-08 16:12 ]

Melonhead... I don't think I was giving you a hard time? I just wanted to know the route (which I still don't know) and the progression of the thread, which was missing. No big deal, definitely not losing any sleep over anything here... By the way, if you edit a message more than one time, you can delete the extra editing marks so that it doesn't have four edit stamps!! Unfortunately, you can't delete discussion by deleting the first post, as you now learned? Some of us take a few days to catch up on what happened last weekend. Congrats on doing the climb (whatever it was!) Holly

Aw, hell, it was you... I couldn't remember whose post it was. OK, OK, sorry to be such a smartass. The whole point behind this announcement stuff is to keep you motivated to not give up. It is not intended to diss you. I'm sure you "get" the difference.

Pete, I was motivated, everybody was psyched for me, so I went up and "sent". After I posted the results I thought I deleted the "whole" post, not just my first one. It's all good. I toast my bowl to you all while on the wall. Melon
