In reply to: LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Michelle Duggar just delivered her 16th child, and she's already thinking about doing it again. Johannah Faith Duggar was born at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday and weighed 7 pounds, 6.5 ounces. The baby's father, Jim Bob Duggar, a former state representative, said Wednesday that mother and child were doing well. He said Johannah's birth was especially exciting because it was the first time in eight years the family has had a girl.

somebody needs to buy these people a tv. sounds like they have enough money to afford it, so i guess it is a valid(though probably not very nice to the kids) choice. if they start needing any public money to support their litter than give 'em the chair.

At least mom and dad are still relatively young, under 40, so they'll be able to enjoy seeing their kids grown up, good shot of seeing the youngest graduate, marry etc. I sure don't understand it myself but as long as they're supporting themselves I say good for them.

I think someone took the opening scene of "The Meaning of Life" too seriously. But 16 kids in 17 years? Can you say "Irish twins"?

well two sets of actual twins help open the gap a LITTLE  Think they even bother with names or just assigned numbers? "Number 4, stop punching Number 6. Three, wipe your feet before you come in, 14, eat your food, don't play with it."

In reply to: Their children include two sets of twins, and each child has a name beginning with the letter "J": Joshua, 17; John David, 15; Janna, 15; Jill, 14; Jessa, 12; Jinger, 11; Joseph, 10; Josiah, 9; Joy-Anna, 8; Jeremiah, 6; Jedidiah, 6; Jason, 5; James, 4; Justin, 2; and Jackson Levi, 1. I guess it's better than being George Foreman XIII.

What if each kid grows up to have even only 4 kids each? It would soon turn into a small country. In any case WELL SHOW INDIA AND CHINA!! IF everyone has 16 KIDS well be the most populous country on Earth!! Our new national goal- 1.5 billion by October 2006!! USA all the Way!!! Whoopie!!!

Where I grew up a family had twenty kids all packed into a row home. They bought the house next to them and then knock out the wall to connect the two homes. They were Irish Catholic.

I met a man in Atlanta last year, a Baptist minister actually, who claimed to be the youngest of 32 siblings, all born to one mother. He said it was incentive not to argue about going to bed early at night, since, if one wasn't one of the first 14 or 15 in bed, one slept on the floor. He also pointed out that nobody ever messed with any of them, since the offender would, in effect, unleash the wrath of an army.

You don't get families that big now adays, but back when (and where...rural farm country/fishing communities on the east coast of Canada) it was pretty common. My mother come from a family with 15 kids. I know a few oher people who's parents come from very large families.

I saw a special once on this family... they kinda creep me out a little. They are all home schooled, the dad started their own church with them and their friends who had like 8 kids at the time and he was the minister. The girls always wore dresses and said they all wanted to get married stay home and pop out kids. The parents said they were hoping some of the kids from the family with 8 kids would get along with theirs and ya know *wink wink*. The oldest just wanted to be lucky enough to find a gal like his ma... but hey if they are happy more power to them I guess...

In reply to: Are these people mormon by chance? Fundamental mormons maybe? Southern Baptist. Dad's a real estate agent who's "made some good investments, so fortunately money is not much of an issue." They are are home schooled, including all playing violin because the were told that would help develop the left side of their brains. Wow.

Over the past few months I've been thinking to myself this is possibly a mental disorder/emotional issue - What kind of person would want to birth so many children? My guess is that people like this are using their children to fill a hole within themself. Does anybody have some information on this idea? I think it's disgusting to be honest. Ever since I saw a program about a British woman with 20 kids and her exclaiming how 'it's the only thing that makes me happy' and some of their children saying not enough attention is being paid to them, it has lead me to believe this is nothing more than a selfish act. It is physically impossible to provide all 16 children with the proper attention they require, in a statistical sense, one or two of those 16 children will have to pay the price for his/her parents rampant child-bearing... I don't care how financially capable someone might be to look after all these kids, it's just unnecessary consumption. Anyway, this is probably no more than one-sided, righteous babble, but I just wanted to see if anybody else shares my opinion.

poor little Jeremiah and Jedidiah. Their mom will never call them by the right name on the first try. Bad enough they all have J names, but then give the twins semi-sound alike names as well??? eeek!
